Steveo-1969 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 This brings up a question. My spin reel came with a ring for use with braid. What does it do and should I use it? I fill the first half of the spool with cheap mono then the second half with braid for two reasons. 1) With mono backing the braid can't slip on the spool, and 2) Braid is expensive and I use less this way. 1 Quote
Big Tyga Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Thanks everyone for your help I appreciate it. How about backing in the reel is that necessary or just spoil with straightbraid then connect Fluro leader Quote
Joedodge Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 You can back it so there's less braid on the reel. That way te reel isn't full I braid you'll never functionally use. And save a lil cash Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 4, 2015 Super User Posted March 4, 2015 Interesting variety of opinions. It appears most folks prefer PowerPro over most other brands of braid. I totally agree with the main line being braid. Attach a 6' fluorocarbon leader and you're good to go. However, I differ on my selection of main braid lines. I much prefer Fireline Crystal to PowerPro. Don't get me wrong, both are great braids. However, PP is a lot more "noisy" coming through the guides. This may/may not be an make or break issue, but it is for me. My Senko rod has about 50 yards of 10# test mono backing, to which I attach 8# test Fireline Crystal. I fill the spool with it, to just below the lip of the reel. (I'm assuming we're talking spinning gear here!) Then I attach a 6' leader of 8# test Fluorocarbon using the Alberto knot (as nearly guaranteed as any knot is). Then attach the hook. With this set up, you will not loose any fish and it's very quiet. Casts like a dream too. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 The more I think about these "which line is best " threads, the more I believe that it's like asking "Which brand of gas and what octane is best to use in my vehicle ?" They all work but everyone has a favorite which often revolves around performance & price. A-Jay Quote
Ultra7580 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Do any of you guys use flouro on spinning. I just got some 8lb tastu to use in a stradic ci4+ for a drop shoting and shaky head type fishing? Quote
curtis9 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I only use fluoro or copoly on spinning reels. I'm personally not a big fan or braid Quote
