I was looking at the St Croix panfish Series. Mainly the 6'9 and 7' versions. The 6'9 is ul fast and the 7' is l xfast. Is there really a difference. I will be casting and reeling jigs with plastics mainly and maybe catching an occasional bass. I want to know which rod would be better for me. Is the ultralight too light for bass and is the light too heavy for panfish? Is there a difference in sensitivity between the two?

If it were me, I'd go with the L/XF for casting jigs, especially if you are going to encounter the occasional bass.

If your budget is fluid enough, then by all means, go with the St. Croix. However, you will not find a better panfish rod than a B n' M Sam Heaton's Super Sensitive in the 7' length. And you can get one for about $50.00.

Thanks guys I appreciate your suggestions and I looked at the other rod also. It is a rod for me to look at further though.

I have the UL Trout Series (very similar to the panfish series) and it is a really good rod for light lines (2-3lb test). Any heavier and I would step up to the L/XF. XF rods with light and ultra-light powers are really fun to fish with, especially with small jigs.
