-ebby- Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Here are some pictures of my first two baits that i have made myself. One is A sunfish swimbait and the other is a baby bass popper in case you couldn't tell What do you think? Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 I think they both would work. Be careful throwing that bluegill swimbait, you might get your arm broke. Quote
SenkoBasser Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Not bad! I too am a rookie tackle maker. I've yet to post my work because I'm purposely waiting to purchase an air gun before I paint them. What ya got wrapped around that sunfish there? The popper is stellar. I actually made one that looks almost exactly like that just a different color. I hand painted it and it came out good. I should get a pic of it up. Nice job. Let us know if you land some pigs with those. Quote
SenkoBasser Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Question: Where do you get your tiny I-Loops? I searched around Home Depot for an hour and couldn't find ones small enough. I searched through my BPS catalog and couldn't find any period. Arts and Crafts store? Thanks. Quote
-ebby- Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 They are screw eyes from ace hardware, guessing you could get them at any hardware store, these were the 20lb size. The sunny is photo finished, look at TU they have a good how to on it. The popper is hand painted to. Edit- pretty sure cabelas.com has some made for this and if your doing joints get some of the open and some of the closed it will be a lot easier than opening them, just look under tacklemaking or something like that. BIG M Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 good work there, a jointed bait is not the easiest build. Quote
Mattlures Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Ebby I have a little constructive critisism for you. When doing a photo finish you will get a cleaner looking bait if you only put the photo on the sides. Dont try and make it go on the top and bottom. Do the sides and clear coat it, then paint the top an olive color and blend it just over the edge of the photo. Do the same on the belly except in white or off white. Then put one more coat of clear over that. Your bait will come out cleaner and you wont have all the little folded edges on your bait. BTW thats pretty darn good for you first atempt!!! Quote
-ebby- Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 Thanks alot mattlures, I relized that i should do it that way a little while after i already did it that way. O well im not to worried because it is just for my use but ill do that on the next one. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted May 1, 2008 Super User Posted May 1, 2008 that jointed one is...interesting. what did you use for the tail? and i agree with mattlures...you should only put the photo on the sides, and maybe just a tiny bit over the edges, when you try to wrap it all the way down it gets those little creases all over it. the popper looks like a fish catcher for sure! -ebby- Posted May 2, 2008 Author Posted May 2, 2008 just tested the swimbait out and it swims pretty nice and floats now with out the hooks and also slightly dives when retrieved, pretty much what i was aiming for. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted May 11, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted May 11, 2008 Nice job, particularly on the jointed bait. Quote
