bassangleram Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Both the the shimano chronarch and the zillion tws are both great reels in my price range, and I'm just having a hard time deciding. The combo won't be finnese but It won't be a flipping stick either. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I think TackleTour just did a comparison of these two reels. 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 1, 2015 Super User Posted March 1, 2015 Which braking system you prefer Will the 1oz lighter CI4 balance well on your rod. The form of the ZTWS not fit your way of holding a reel, CI4 has a more "traditional" form. Does Made in Japan(ci4) vs Thailand(ZTWS) matter to you. Â Â On the TT test 2-2 on the CI4 braking sure seems a bit much, more towards 50% braking than the 30% of the Ztws 6 of 20 setting. Max on ci4 is 4-6 so half is 2-3. the CI4 faired better in more categories for the win. Quote

Yep, if they went to 1 brake on, and 4-6 on the dial it would have easily outcast the Zillion and taken less effort with the lure they were using. The Zillion does have a much stronger drag though. Before you drop the money for either, see if you can go handle them somewhere like at BPS. 1 Quote
Jon G Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Im guessing your price range is around $300? If so it is easy to find Metaniums for a little under $300. I think you would enjoy that reel more than the CI4 or the Zillion. 2 Quote
bassangleram Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Thanks you guys for your inputs, and ill surley check out the metaniums too. Quote

BasshunterJGH Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Also if you go with a ci4+ or zillion is go ci4+ based on tackletours review. Quote

I have not had a problem with reels off ebay in the past but if you shop around and wait for sales you can get a metanium for a little cheaper on a lot of JDM sites. Quote

Great thanks guys ive been wanting to get one for a long time to pair with an orochi xx. $307 is definitely the best deal I've seen so far but ill stay on the lookout! Quote
kschultz76 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I have three Chronarch CI4+ reels and just got a Metanium. I can tell you that out of the box the Met is a noticeable step above the Chronarchs. And that's saying something bc the Chronarchs are also impressive. My Chronarchs are on their way back from a cleaning and super tuning so will see how they perform now. I never serviced them new and everyone seems to agree they benefit greatly from a good servicing. They're both great reels and they both fit great on my Orochi XX rods, very comfortable. I got the Met to pair with my new Diablo Spec R and they just go together perfectly for me. 2 Quote
JGBassinAL Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I paid right around $280 for my Metanium about a month ago on japanlureshop so I'd check there before ordering off Ebay. And I got my reel in three days. 2 Quote

bootytrain Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 japanlureshop is now my go to shop for JDM. Their shipping is cheaper and the ordering process is faster than Rakuten. Ive gotten things in literally 2 business days! JDM Chronarch CI4 is only like $220 there, JDM Zillion TWS is also cheaper there. Quote

Did you notice any major differences between the two? I have 3 USDM models and love them and was thinking about picking up a JDM model at that price... Quote

I don't have the Chronarch, but the JDM version shows the S3D spool as a feature while the USDM doesn't. Don't know why. When I do get a Chronarch it will be the JDM model, 50 bucks cheaper and 1 extra feature doesn't hurt at all. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Â I think the CI4 and the Metanium are both great reels. I have a Metanium on my Orochi xx EMTF but I also think that the TWS Zillion got a very bad rap from tackletour, that place.......sometimes I just don't know what to think about their rod and reel reviews. I wish we had a better place to read reviews on things. They could not accept that the new Zillion was not the old Zillion and they knocked off on some things for that instead of judging the reel on it's own merits. I think the TWS Zillion is fantastic but I'm also a big fan of the Tatula. Quote

I think the TWS Zillion is fantastic but I'm also a big fan of the Tatula. Performance wise the new Zillion got a higher rating than even the Steez. But Cal(the enthusiast editor who has several of the old Zillions) has his personal preferances when it comes to ergonomics and other things. I think the new Zillion would have been better received if it came out before the Tatula, as people just look at the Zillion as a more expensive Tatula with a couple of features that really don't improve on the performance of the Tat. How so? 5-4-1 isnt a very bad rap it basically came down to ergo and the weight form of the TWS frame is not as ergo as the CI4. Weight, price, handle length, ratios that cant be debated it is what it is, Drag test show those results max to Z smoothness to CI4 no debate there. Just not seeing the bad rap with the results. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 That would all be fine if they would have reviewed it as a Zillion and not an upgraded Tatula. They had already stated they didn't like it before that review started so in my mind it was a bad rap. Â Â "Â Cal(the enthusiast editor who has several of the old Zillions) has his personal preferances," Â Â Â Â Yes and this to me is where the problem is. I do not compare my new TWS Zillion to my older Zillions and then start knocking it down because it isn't an older Zillion, just seems to me like he should be a little more professional. Just review it on what it is now, not what it use to be or what "YOU" want it to be. Quote
Hogsticker Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Every review written by any person regarding any rod or reel is based on personal reflection. I would never purchase either item based on reviews. I agree that the Zillion should have been released before the Tatula. From an Ergonomics stand point, the old Zillion was very hard to beat, where as many find the new frame cumbersome. One rash guard seems odd. Personally, I don't care much for Shimanos new braking system, but again, personal preference. I think people tend to get set in there ways. Hard not to make direct comparisons between new and old Zillion, new and old Shimano braking system, etc. Quote

Trust me, Cal and Zander favor Daiwas.. just look at the review times vs the reel release dates. The zillion just came out and they already have a review on it, when did the CI4 come out? Over a year ago. I do believe they have a special relationship with Daiwa as well. And he was doing the review so why wouldn't he state his personal preferences? That's what everybody would do. I personally only look at their performance ratings, the other categories I don't pay attention to as much. Quote
