Coleman Crawdad???

im 17, addicted to fishin and work at Dairy Queen. I am to busy with school, sports, work, and other things. I used to race dirtbikes and I'm gonna sell mine for around 1500-2k and then buy a jon boat. I was lookin on Craigslist and found 11'6" Coleman Crawdad (looks to be flawless) with minn Kota trolling motor, humminbird 565, Rod holders on both sides, really nice seats, grey carpet, lights, paddle, and trailer. All looks very nice. He's asking 900 obo. How stable are they? Is it worth spending more for a jon? I yak at small creeks , rivers and also different size lakes. Biggest lake I go to is Norfolk and Cypress. Thanks for your help!

I fished in one several years ago. They are not that stable. Probably a bit more than a canoe or kayak, but not as stable as an aluminum jon boat. A good boat wake could probably flip one. If you already have a kayak, this is not that much of a step up but you can carry more gear if that's what you are looking for.  I'm sure others here have spent more time in one than I have.

To add onto what Scott said, I fished out of a similar boat for several years. It got me around, but much better options out there. They're very heavy, and they fall apart after a lot of use. That price isn't terrible, but if you have a truck you can put a 12' johnboat in the back and go without a trailer and lights to have to worry about. Plus a johnboat will last forever if you take good care of it, and you can do modifications to it much easier.

A crawdad was my first boat and I regret selling it all the time. I added about a 2ft section of 1/2" marine plywood in front of each seat. I screwed it directly into the 3 rails that run the length of the boat. I could stand and fish up front while my buddy fished seated in the back. I wasn't uneasy while doing it either,and my balance isn't the greatest. If I was alone then I fished out of the back since I had to operate the trolling motor. It can be moved around with just one person and I could load it in the bed of my truck by myself. You can find aluminum jon boats in the same price range and add some flooring to those also. The crawdad is great for shallow rivers too. The plastic is pretty durable.

My buddy had one. I was able to get around the lake much better in my fishing kayak, but for two guys you need two kayaks. In the crawdad, he could bring a buddy. My kayak was quite a bit more stable than the crawdad when it came to standing, though that was with two guys in it, not alone like the kayak.
