JigMouth Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I have a Lowrance HDS 5 and a HDS 7 and neither of them have map chips. I am wanting to purchase the navionics HotMaps Premium since it is on sale right now for $120. Would these be the best to buy or are there any better or cheaper ones coming out in the near future. Thanks Quote
DropSpot Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Hey JigMouth I would buy it, good maps, good quality, good everything, just make sure you can find Bud and Mary's Marina on there so you get get some good burgers with me and the boy's. 1 Quote
RustyShackleford Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 X2. Just make sure you get the right chip. I've seen so many people buy the wrong chip at BPS. The current chip I have doesn't have Guntersville but has my local waters in East TN. Quote
jcoholich Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Make sure once you buy the chip you go online register it and download the freshest data... This will make sure you have all the new data available up to the day you download it.... You also can go back and refresh the data anytime for a whole year by registering it. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 4, 2015 Super User Posted March 4, 2015 The Navionics Hotmaps Premium is available for regions. get the one that has the waters you fish. The South region has Georgia. Quote

If you want both, the Navionics+ version should be your choice unless you want to buy two regional cards. Quote
lou304 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Is the Hotmaps Platinum worth the extra $50 over the premium? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 Is the Hotmaps Platinum worth the extra $50 over the premium? Yes, but only for the Sonar Charts feature. The extra gimmick stuff like 3D, Satellite Overlay, and photos is not worth it. Navionics+ would be a better choice since it has Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts. Plus it is not regional. You can download waters anywhere in the US and Canada. Hotmaps Premium and Hotmaps Platinum are preloaded and regional Navionics+ comes with no maps, you choose what to put on the card. 1 Quote
Murphangler Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 If I could make a suggestion, I would recommend Navionics+, which would allow you: access to lakes in all regions in the US, just download the area you are going to fish directly from Navionics.com ability to reload unlimited updates from SonarChart uploads, Nautical Charts, and community edits for 12 months SonarChart ability for your own boat available on your Mobile Device as well Good Luck! WWW.MURPHANGLER.COM You don't download from Navionics.com. You download and install the computer software called ChartInstaller and that is the link for the data with the Navionics upload and download servers. Quote
Murphangler Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 You use the ChartInstaller software to transfer the map data to your card, you are absolutely right, which in turn downloads the data from navionics.com (store-mirror.navionics.com). The only way to get the ChartInstaller software is to visit navionics.com. To get the freshest Data: 1) Go to navionics.com 2) Plug in your card 3) Click Downloads & Updates Its also valuable to make sure you have 1) the most up to date version of the ChartInstaller at navionics.com and 2) you have logged in and inputted your Chartplotter make and model for use during the upload. Good luck! Quote
