Tlaz Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey all. Here is what I currently have for equipment. Looking to see if anyone could give their opinions on what you would add for a set up and what reels ( size/ speed) you would buy for replacements. Basically looking to add one full set up and replace 2 reels. Casting: 6'8" MF skeet Reese with Lewis 7.1:1 7' MHF Carbonlite with Revo SX 6.4:1 6'6" M Vedetta with KVD 6.3:1 ( replacing reel ) Spinning: 7' MHF Field &stream with Pflueger 6.2:1 ( replacing reel ) Not crazy about rod either so may replace that too. 7' M Bucoo with Penn 6.2:1 I know this is subjective but looking for any input Thanks Tom Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted February 27, 2015 Super User Posted February 27, 2015 I would look into getting a rod in the 7'3" to 7'6" MH/H. Find something with a IPT of about 30-32" and give yourself a good pitching/jig set up. Rod and reel brand up to you. I fish a lot of 13 Fishings reels and the Black Omens as well as the Falcon Bucco's and Quantum's. (EXO, Kenitic, Smoke 150s, TourMG). But a good jig/pitching rod would be a good addition to your arsenal. Quote
The Next KVD Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Personally I would probably add a 6' 9"ML St.Croix Avid spinning or equivalent for dropshots, shakeyheads, real finesse stuff that demands 4-8lb test with a Shimano Sahara 2500 reel. As far as replacing your reels, I'm love the Shimano Sahara 4000's for spinning and for the casting reel to replace the Quantum KVD, Its hard to beat a Shimano Curado 200i (6.2:1) or an even better bang for buck, you can get a Daiwa Tatula (6.3:1) online for under $100. I choose the 6.x:1 reels in your case because of the overall versatility. I personally only own 1 5:x:1 ratio reel for deep cranking, and 3 6.x:1 ratio for moving baits. Any bottom contact bait, I'm going to use a 7.x:1 ratio reel. I'd say atleast 50% of my rods are 7'MH/F just because of they are just the right length and power to do 80% of the techniques in fishing. Quote
