I picked up a Pro Qualifier for my Son while Bass Pro was having their big in-store sale.  I was thinking of pairing it up with one of their BPS crankin' sticks.  Not really in a rush to buy, and I know I've seen those on sale.  In your opinion, is that a good match?  How often do they really go on sale?

That being asked, I was looking at their 6'6" Medium / Fast.  Thoughts?

I have a BP Pro Qualifier low gear ratio paired with a 7ft MH Crankin Stick for deep cranks. I like it and it does well.

what do you plan on your son using it for? just cranks or as an all around rod? I would not recommend a crankin stick for general/all around use. there are much better options for an all purpose rod.. imo

They seem to go on sale like clockwork every year and usually only online although don't know the dates off the top of my head.  Sale pricing is usually $20 off.

What would you consider a decent all around bait casting rod? Still in the same price range.

well... you are going to get all kinds of suggestions...and they will all be good..

in the $80 range... and since it sounds like you are close to a BP. I would consider these..

BP Extreme I own one and I like it.

BP Johnny Morris carbonlite they have a good following here

Abu Garcia Vendetta..

for $20 more you can get

Abu Garcia Veritas. I own one and like it

Shimano Compre I also own one of these and like it..

Fenwick HMG. a great rod for the money. I have their Aetos and it is an outstanding rod

Duckett Ghost rod

there are many, many more but I would not buy anything that you can't hold and check out that it why I limited my suggestions to what BP carries

I paired up a PQ I bought at the big sale with a 6'6" Berkley Cherrywood M/F from Academy Sports on sale for $19.99.    I've been throwing rattle traps, etc, and love this inexpensive, all-purpose combo!   Great synergy!

I really liked the old carbonlites and they are very good for the money. the new carbonlites look really bad but I haven't used them.

I'd suggest anything in the M/F to MH/F You'd have to look at the recommended weights on the rod you're looking at since int's not an industry standard regarding power, you'll have to check out the individual rod you're looking at buying. Either way though, for an all around rod I'd be looking for something other than the Crankin Stick.

I have both the BPS Crankin stick and the AG Vendettas. Happy with both.

I do not have a BPS Cranking Stick, but I read a ton of favorable reports on them by experienced anglers.
