cjam93 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey guys I want to buy some weighted hooks to try out this swimbait. Gamakatsu swimbait hooks come in different weights and sizes. Would you use a 3/0 hook 1/8oz or a 4/0 hook in 1/8oz? Ill be throwing these around shallow docks so I thought the lighter weight might be better, or would you suggest the 1/4oz? Quote
Super User webertime Posted February 27, 2015 Super User Posted February 27, 2015 2/0 or some of the smaller 3/0 hooks (vmc) 2 Quote
Heron Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Of those choices, I would use the 3/0. I like the 4/0 better on the 4.8 Keitechs. 2 Quote
atcoha Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 give a report on how you do. I almost bought some of those swimbaits today...I have the smaller ones for trailers...will be using them soon. 1 Quote
cjam93 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 Ok thanks guys! What size weight should I use? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 27, 2015 Super User Posted February 27, 2015 Shallow dock fishing would not warrant much weight. I would use the 1/8 oz weight. These soft baits has some good weight in them. Plus you will have better action and a more natural swimming action with the lighter weight. Try them on a swim jig as well! 1 Quote
hawgenvy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 These baits wiggle seductively even with the slowest fall. And they cast pretty well. No need to go above 1/8 oz. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I like them best on a plain 1/8 ball head jig or swim jig. The short shank lets the tail really swim. They'll catch on a swimbait hook but more like any other plastic would. 1 Quote
ibobpeb Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Don't know if anyone already mentioned this but for 3.8" Keitech Swing Impact Fats, I only use 3/0 1/8th oz Eagle Claw Weighted Swimbait 60 degree hooks with the spring-lock. 1 Quote
bassin is addicting Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 3/0 1/8oz if you are going to use a weighted hook BUT I agree with DVT on the straight ball head jig. 1/8oz. Rhino turned me on to these on last year's Roadtrip.....he was tearing them up. I soon followed his lead and we did so well we had to place an order with TW and have more delivered to our cabin.. lol.. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 16, 2021 Super User Posted January 16, 2021 You wearing you're catcher's mitt? Good, here's comes a curveball. 6th Sense Swimbait Hook - 3/16 oz x 3/0 Roger Quote
