Hello,

I'm looking at buying a new 1650 Lund Rebel. ($28,800)I have two that I'm curently considering, one has a 90hp Mercury and the other has a 90hp Evenrude e-tec.

Any suggestions about the pros and cons with these two motors?

Thanks for your help!

Both are good motors. It's really up to you. I know the pros of the Etec are the 3 year no maintenance and the face that you can winterize them on the water in a matter of minutes without any tools the last time you uses them for the year.

I think the new Etec's have no recommended maintenance for the first 500 hours. Personally, I would never let a motor go that long without at least some basic checks/maintenance

For the smaller ones I could only find the 3 year/300 hours online. The G2's might be 500 but they only go down to 200hp for now. I hear you though, I'm not letting anything go that long without at least a few checks.

Take this for what it's worth, I have a friend that is a boat sales man, I am in the same situation as you looking at the same type of boat. He tells me e tec is a problem engine and to say away. He recommends merc for speed and yamaha for fuel economy. They are a merc, yamaha, evenrude dealer. The E's have always been harder to work on I think. So this was ok with me. I have had older E's and they been ok, but moving on today I am looking for a long term buy so I am looking for the most trouble free motor I can buy.

Thanks everyone!........

Krappiehog,

I'm also looking at a long term buy, and kinda of leaning to a Mercury. Let me know how you make out or what you decide for a boat and motor, I will let you know what I find as well!

I know a guy who is a boat dealer around here and he is a merc, Yamaha, and evinrude dealer.  He said he doesn't like selling the etecs because they never come back needing to be fixed....

Don't wait on me ! It's probably gonna be abot a year... I have decided to pay off my truck &, I'm close. I have come to this decision...

I am limited on dealers in my area... But the tracker pro guide V16 T looks like my choice. Unless I just find find something I been missing. I need a boat with room, I got 3 boys and fishing around a console is not worth all the hassle.

I don't care to have huge HP, SO THE 60 will fine. So I guess I'm stuck with a merc unless I can find a independent dealer that sells tracker and sells Honda or yamaha. I'll be honest, Honda is my first choice, yamaha, and Suzuki or Mercury... I hear good things about Suzuki. I just don't have a dealer close. And it stinks trying to get parts... So Honda, yamaha, or merc are my choices... And in that order! Lol

The v16t has pretty much everything I want in a boat. I want livewell, rod locker, and some storage...

With the boys I need stable! My boys don't sit still, never have, so wider is better! I been fishing out of a old 35" wide glass river Jon, that's fun some days, I will tell you. It is 20.5' long but w/o width length is nothing.

I had a bass at P2, w/200yamaha, was smoking fast.... And cost $$$$ to run, no more of that!

Fish don't care what I'm running, nor do I so for me it's just about the fun... I don't tournament fish real either so what I will do will be with my son, and it shou.d be fine.

I'm interested in finding out what you bought and how you like it.  I personally would never trust Evinrude after all the problems Johnson/Evinrude have had in the past.

I have a Suzuki 50, and it is a great engine.  17 years old and runs perfectly, starts perfectly.  Parts easy on line, all mechanics work on them.

The new g2 line up 150 - 300 is about as good as gets now engine wise imho ... gas mileage is insane good and torque wow plus they look dam good with dude panels to match whatever you want

but I still prefer the quieter verados just because

Holy tamole, almost 30 grand for a 16.5 foot boat?  I just looked at Lund's website and you can get a brand new one for under $15 grand.  Where are you getting this number?  And another question, how in the world can you mount a 90 hp on a 16.5 foot boat?  That seems just ridiculous.

the boat my father picked up used last year over the summer is a Crestliner fishhawk 1650 w/90hp merc, the boat is maxed out with the 90 on the back. I love seeing his face light up with the big smile and all when the lake is clear and calm and he lets the 90hp eat. I'm not saying it's a rocket but for a deep V aluminum boat that's 16'9" w/ my dad, younger brother and me on it she cruises nicely

Had a 17ft Mirrocraft with a 90 Merc. It'll do 40 all day.

exactly how this is, it'll cruise at 40-45 and isn't a gas pig. when we he picked it up he bought it on the spot and guy said it was hardly used and my dad thought maybe the guy was just saying that to get it sold but when the bait was winterized for the year they checked the motor and the motor only had 11hrs on it and that's after we used for the remaining of the summer that was left

IMO the 90HP isnt needed on this boat.  I have the same boat with a 60HP and 4 blade prop, gets on plane right away and does 35 with two guys.  if you want the 90HP then get the 1750 rebel

Ah, the exchange rate makes sense but a 90 on a 16.5 foot boat still seems ridiculous.  The max they would put on my 17'8" inch boat was a 75 last year when I bought it.

That seems really low. I have a 115 on my 17'6". What type of boat do you have that they wouldn't put more than a 75 on it?

i just looked on the Lund website and it lists a max hp for the Rebel 1650 SS as 50 hp and the tiller model as having a max hp rating of 40 hp.  Either the factory has changed the boat for this year or he is mixed up on the boat model.

Here is the link;    http://www.lundboats.com/boat-models/1600-rebel/

As I see it you have to move up to a 1675 Impact before they offer a boat with a 90 hp outboard. An Impact is a lot more boat then any Rebel, Fury, or Fury XL. They are all nice boats but by the time you get to an Impact there is a bunch of boat surrounding you. In fact, it looks like a very nice fishing machine to me.  If this is the boat he was actually looking at, then his price sounds a bit more in line.
