Some guys feel that the seam in the bait added to the wiggle of the bait. You dont get that on repaints or the new warts. Personally I think its color that makes the most difference. That being said Ive caught big fish on post rap baits so I wouldnt call the new baits garbage. Just not the same lure you caught 400 fish on Lake of the Ozarks in 1985. Look at some of the megabass colors, they go for the hundreds of dollars because they changed the eyes and some paint around.

I agree about the paint being the biggest issue right now. Just look at the picture I put at the top of the page. Both are V38 warts, but anyone can tell there's a big difference in probably not just the color, but also the texture of the paint. The top looks like a matte finish while the old one on the bottom is glossy. That top one was from when they first reintroduced the warts, I don't think I've ever caught anything other than a big trout on it. These new ones have a glossy finish again and have been much better producers for me.

Can any of you with wiggle wart experience tell me if this package is the newest original storm series with the old molds or the ones that rapala made with the molds they corrected to run right?

If it says "Original Series" on the label, it's made by Rapala.

Yea I know its made by Rapala but do you know if it is one of the new new ones that are supposed to be using the old molds or if it is one of the first generations made by rapala.

Ya I have heard about the new new ones for 2015. Not sure what box looks like. I heard they are good tho

I think the new new ones you are referring to are just new colours for the wart. That is what I have found when searching for new 2015 warts, just new colours but I could be mistaken

That's my conclusion also. I haven't seen any new redesigned 2015 wiggle warts.

Old small warts have a plastic that deadens the sound compared to the post rapala warts.  The post rapala large size warts use steel bbs and a hollow sounding plastic that give the bait a much higher pitch than pre rapala large warts with their lead bbs and deadened plastic.

Post rapala warts make use of low slung ballast weights doubling as knocker rattles to induce a lot of stability to the bait compared to the pre rapalas where the lead bbs doubled as a ballast weight and were situated high enough on the bait to make the baits inherently unstable, sometimes resulting in a hunting action that the baits are famous for.

They supposedly went back to the old mold or molding process that's supposed to make them more similar to the old warts. They did add new colors as well though. It isn't new for 2015 though, it was last year I believe. They are different than the ones that were in production when Rapala first started making them again though and seem to work much better.

The old molds were destroyed.  The post rapalas that look like he old ones are not carbon copies of the old warts but post rapala warts made to look like, at least on the outside, like the old warts.  They are far more stale and have different sound profile than the pre rapala warts.

I like how on the rapala website they list the wiggle wart as having a "side to side" crayfish action.  I personally have never seen a crawfish swimming in a "side to side" fashion.  Kidding aside I do like wiggle wart cranks but in NC the  lakes I fish they dont seem to be too big of a producer for me.  Id love to fish one on some of the ozark lakes sometime though.

Well my order came in. I am pretty impressed with the newer craw colours. They look really nice to me! I understand what people say about a higher pitched rattle from the steel balls but I'm sure they'll catch fish just fine. I can't wait for ice out to fish these!

what do you all think of the hooks that come on them?

I just picked up five at Bass Pro on sale and wondered if I should swap out the hooks?

I've heard they're plenty sharp and they feel pretty sticky to me.

Given a choice I would fish nothing but pre rap. But the new ones do run pretty well.. I still dont think they sound the same but they will catch fish... BPS has some colors that Tim Hughes designed that are really good ,PBJ, phantom PBJ, green Craw /blue belly and I believe a mossy craw maybe one or two others.. The ones that I got look great for a factory paint job... .

Honestly , The key to catching fish on a wart is in how and where you fish it...It aint chuck and crank...

The original Pre Rapala had a slightly cupped lip (like a Scatter Rap) and they hunted well. Also different plastic and lead rattles that gave a unique sound.

The new new ones (2015?) are suposed to be very good

Would either of you two be able to offer me any techniques, scenarios, or tips for when and where to fish the warts??

Just fish them around rocks. Make sure they are ticking the bottom and mix up your retrieves. A steady medium speed retrieve will get you bit more often than not, but sometimes a stop and go retrieve is the way to go, and sometimes you have to burn it (warmer water) or crawl it (colder water). Water with a good chop or a little color in it is ideal.

On Bull Shoals and Table Rock I look for banks and points with a good slope but not steep (<45 degrees) in likely fish holding areas preferably with some good size chunk rock. I turn the trolling motor up and cast at a 45 degree angle to the bank and cover as much water as possible. I usually just stick to the natural crawfish colors.

Here on Table Rock I look for the transitions from bigger rock down to football size or smaller, also the bluff ends. I try to find water with some stain in it, around here thats usually up the rivers and creeks..  I want it grinding on the bottom and not a steep bank.. I run the boat parallel to the bank and cast out front, not much angle...

Dave Barker is one of the best wart fisherman in the Ozarks , he has a video on you tube ,pay attention to how he pulls the bait along with the rod tip and reels the slack..
