What hp is the boat rated for?   Is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke motor?  If it floats and it gets you on the water and the motor works ok and stuff like that and it is the best you can do right now - go for it.

If you are on bigger waters and running any distance, you will find that the  boat is a little under-powered, that's just my opinion, anyway.   For putting around on smaller lakes, it would be ok.

I have a pro 165 and mine is rated for a 40hp, however the motor i have is a 9.9 and its definately a little under powered, yours is kinda in the middle which might be a little frustrating in larger waters but for smaller lakes it would be perfect in my opinion. Good luck

My home lake has a 20hp limit and there are a few guys with that same combo.. looks like get to 20-25 with two guys no problem. seems like a good setup. I have to troll there since I have a PT175 with a 40 on it and on a good day I hit 30 with that on the river.

It'd be a little under-powered but depending on your location, that could be ok. I know they are fairly narrow and not much for storage, but again depending on your needs that could be ok. A lot of it is going to depend on your needs on if it's the right fit for you.

I know this doesn't pertain to the exact boat, but I have been looking at the 170 with a 20hp on it.  I started a thread a few months back.  It might settle your nerves about the speed of the 160 knowing what these guys say about the 170.  ( http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/148764-bass-tracker-pro-170/ )

Also, there is a video of a guy with a 2013 Tracker 165 (no longer made) which as VERY similar specs to the 160 (

).  He goes at a good clip for a 20hp.

I hope all of that helps!

Thanks Dale , I saw that , I don't think the 20 is a bad fit for this boat , I'm fishing primarily alone and wanted something I could get in and out easily...I'm looking at all of them tracker loews alumicraft ..

Let me know what you decide on and why if you dont mind!  I'm still in the market for a 20hp boat that will be roomier than a decked jon, which seems like the only option aside from the tracker 160/170.  If I fished alone I would target a 165 if I could find one.  I'm not crazy about the 160 not having an actual rod locker.

Good luck in the search!

I bought a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 last year with a Merc 25 horse on it. It is rated for 40-75 horse motor, but what do you do when you find a nice boat with all kinds of gadgets, a trailer, gps, downscan, and lots of storage for $3k??

So I went for it, and with myself, my wife, and two boys, we top out at about 25 with the right prop. I have found it to be perfectly adequate for me. Obviously a 70 would get me to places a ton faster, but I have never once felt frustrated or slow on it. I get it closer to 30 when I'm out alone.

Hope this helps.

Whether this helps or not.

I have a 2001 Pro Team 165, had a 9.9 on it 4 stroke Mercury.  Wouldnt see over 7-8mph with 2 people, it'd plane out with just me and do roughly 11.

Replaced the carb with a 15hp carb (only difference that year) and got the boat on plane and now it does 13-15 mph with 2 people and 17-18 with just me...to the point of hitting rev limiter in cooler weather.  I fish primaryly with 2 people so I keep the lower prop on it.

I bought my used boat last year for $2800, from what I've seen the boats havent changed much throughout the years.  If you have an option to try before you buy, I think used is the way to go if you have cash in hand.  I also feel much less bad when i smack a stump in my cheap old boat rather my 12-15k new one.

I have almost this exact same setup, mine is a 2002 165 with a merc 9.9 4-stroke, same year motor as the boat and I too had it carbed up to a 15hp. However im runnning 10-12 with 2 people and gear and maybe 13-14 with just myself. I think i paid 2900$ 2 years ago which is a hell of a steal around here. Most of the lakes around me are horsepower restricted to 10 or less and its what everyone wants. Would be an easy sell if i ever wanted to do so. Just wish I could get 17-18 mph with one person, id leave my buddy at home on tournament days.

Same here all of our local lakes are 9.9 limited, not sure what prop you are running and if you know your RPM.

I switched the 9 prop that came with for a 8,  I will tell you i hit a stump with the brand new prop and it knocked my MPH down almost 1.   All of our lakes are manmade so they are stump city in some area's.  If your prop is beat up it maybe worth looking into.  I got mine cheap on iboats.

Hey Guppy, I'm glad to see this question posted! I just bought this boat from bps and I had a heck of a time finding any good info or reviews on it. For me the 20 hp is perfect as I primarily fish no wake lakes but sometimes make a few trips to larger unrestricted waters. My boat has not been delivered but I plan to make a detailed review and video on YouTube when I get it on the water. I'll keep you posted when I get that done.

I don't have any extra money upfront to put down on a boat and my wife and I have three kids, and a lot of student loans and other everyday debt so I don't wanna go finance a boat for big monthly payments.

I'd give anything to come across a good deal on a Tracker Pro 160 with 20 HP.......  Sure I'd love to go drop $25G on a new boat but it's not fair to my family to do so.

I fish out of a Pelican Bass Raider 8 that i picked up out of the trader mag for $300. I caught several nice fish out of it last year but the only downside is I am stuck to small ponds and reservoirs because it's impossible to cover water with a trolling motor....

Very nice sir! I like the livewell size, that's something the tracker is definitely lacking.
