irishman775 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I have heard that you want something in the 5 ratio for a crankbait reel, does that same thought process apply for lipless cranks and squarebills which is the majority of the crankbaits I will be using? Would another ration work better like something in the 6's? Or should I go with the 5 ratio incase down the road I want to crank deep divers and all that? Look forward to your advice... kikstand454 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I know its hard to think this way on a budget. ... but ideally, you would want two separate rigs. The general consensus ( and IMHO) a deep crank rod benifits from long length, parabolic bend, and low gear ratios. Where as generally (and IMHO) your lipless cranks, squarebills and possibly even mid depth cranks benifit from a stiffer action in general, and a higher speed reel. Of course you can do both with a 7'mh/mf and a 6.x reel if you wish. ..... but that's splitting the difference and really is dependent on how specialized you want your aresenal. Quote
