I'm looking for a good real in the $100-price range,

I'll be paring it w/ a *** *** black something in a 7.1:1 or 8.1:1 gear ratio for jigs,worms,etc.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I just got a curado i in the mail. I'm digging it. Feels solid like the curado e. Easier to palm than the e. It also casts further. Got it off eBay for 140. 7.2:1

Well I've been searching for the answer to this question myself, and the first thing I've discovered is there are a lot of options in this price range. For what it's worth, I've settled on the Daiwa Tatula 7.1:1. It can be found on Amazon.com for about $100-105. Looks like a very smooth reel and the TWS seems like a nice plus. You could go Type-R if you want the 8.1:1 but according to most, it's not necessarily more performing than the regular Tatula and will cost more so that's up to you.

As I said though, there are a lot of quality products to chose from in this bracket. My second choice was a Lews, probably an LFS . But the Tatula just looks like a pretty sweet package for the price and that's what I'll be going for.

Edit: sorry the Tatula I was referring to is actually a 7.3:1

My favorite for the money is definitely the BPS Pro Qualifier. Read tons of reviews on them and ended up getting one on sale. I haven't been disappointed yet. I would just read up on the reviews on whichever ones you are looking at and then go and see how they feel in your hand.

Two reels come to mind for that price lews tournament pro or lews gold if you can find it. And the curado I. But I believe anything in that price range should be a great reel.

For the high end of your range 175-180 you should be still able to find the discontinued model zillion. Nothing else will come close to the zillion in that price range. If you want to stay close to 100 I'd check out a tatula.

I would be looking at the Tatula R and Curado I.  Both can be found in your price range and come in a 8.1 and 7.2 respectively.

I already have a tatula type R 6.4:1 for shallow cranking but I would like something that palms better.

I'm considering the lews speed spool Lfs,It sounds like a great little reel.

I have a 6'10 *** M and 7'1 mh ***. One is paired with lews tourney pro and the other with a curado e7. Both balance right at the locking nut. Great setups.

The Pro Qualifier should be easily palmable and is on sale for $80 at BPS right now.

The *** *** in the 8:1 is a sweet little reel that was made to be paired with the *** rods. Definitely worth giving a look.

That would be a great choice...I have a 2 that I've been using for a couple of years now and have not had any issues whatsoever. I find myself picking up my Lew's reels way more often than my Abu's

Tons of options in that price range. Tatula type r, ***, Lews Tournament Pro, Curado I. Most of them can be had well under retail if you look on eBay.

In your price range all the reponses are going to be "favorites", there is no "best".

The BR Staff has been very impressed with Pinnacle rods and reels, but we all

have other favorites, too. I have several Pinnacle reels and an Okuma, the rest

are Shimano.

I'm not going to be snarky, I'm not going to be snarky, about what is and what ain't a good REAL.  A good

REAL what . . . . . offers so many opportunities to be snarky that it is unfair.  Kind of like sneaking up behind guys on crutches and kicking the crutches.

Should you desire a good REEL that will last for the rest of your life, pop for around $180 or so and buy and Chronarch 50 E.

Lew's Tournament MB seems like the reel you want. If you want to spend a little more you could get TWO LFS Speed Spools, or a Tournament Pro (which is awesome).
