I'm in the market for a new spinning rod.  Right now I use a tow piece rod that came in a combo with my Mitchell reel about 4 years ago.  I am looking for something that I can use to with a Senko, a drop shot, a fluke and an occasional crank bait.  I already own a Baitcasting MH/F setup.

I am thinking something along the lines of M/F rod.  Does this seem reasonable?  Would I be better served with a M/M rod?

I was thinking of getting something in the $100 to $130 range like a St. Croix Mojo Bass, Falcon Original or a Duckett Ghost.

Any leads or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are right on with a M/F rod. At that price range, I would take a look at a Fenwick HMG. Great rods at a great price.

Just about any medium power spinning rod that is fast, or even extra fast will be soft enough for crankbaits. I have a 6'9" M-XF Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod and I use to throw a #5 shad rap with it and it worked well for that, I don't think you need a moderate spinning rod unless it is in the medium heavy power range.

Ok. I'll add Fenwick and 13 to my watch list and I'll just keep my eyes open for a good sale.

Thanks for the help.

I just purchased a 7'2 MF Phenix Maxim and it's a really nice rod for $110.

I also looked at the Fenwick HMG, *** Black, and the Duckett. The HMG would have been my second choice, all were nice rods though and it's hard to go wrong at that price point.

Also the 6' 10" MF Crucial on tackle warehouse for around 80 bucks is nice rod at that price.

Shimano Crucial Spinning Rod 6'10" Medium CRSJ610MA selling right now on TW for $83 shipped.

This is a good deal, better hurry!

I was going to recommend Lamiglas Excel 2, however they are sold out at $79.

I have a 6'9" MH Duckett Ghost that I love for shaky heads, Senkos, grubs, and light T rigs. Paired with a Daiwa Aird spinning reel

If you go with the St. Croix you might even consider the ML/XF depending on what you throw the most. Look at the recommended weights on both and figure out what suits the technique you'll be throwing the most.

I am getting a lot of good recommendations.  Are there any rods in this price point you would avoid?

You can't go wrong with established rod makers with a good track record of customer service.

Duckett for a example started with Carrot sticks, not a good choice, he now has his white line of rods and it may be too soon to know how long these will last under UV exposure for example, however very popular rods.

Shinamo, Fenwick, St Croix, Lamiglas are all good well established rod companies with good quality mid price range rods.
