Super User scaleface Posted February 25, 2015 Super User Posted February 25, 2015 I call mine an A+++. Any fishing season after a cancer diagnosis is a tremendous +. The season coming up will be my fifth. Hootie A+ here also. I missed a lot of fishing for two years due to health reasons and major surgery . This coming season , with a new used Lowe deck boat , I am well equipped to take some ill people fishing . 1 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted February 25, 2015 Super User Posted February 25, 2015 I call mine an A+++. Any fishing season after a cancer diagnosis is a tremendous +. The season coming up will be my fifth. Hootie This certainly puts things into perspective. I WAS going to rank 2014 as a solid "C" but now I've reconsidered. I think I'll give it an A+ 1 Quote
ward131 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I have to say a B. I had my best catches ever but my plan for fall/winter was a disaster. I couldn't catch a fish to save my life. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 25, 2015 Super User Posted February 25, 2015 C Didn't fish too many tournaments, and the ones I did finished just out of the money. I did not stick a bunch of fish, or caught many monsters. I did not really try any new techniques, but stuck with what I know. I did get back into the kayak a lot more, and fished plenty of new water - water I pass over in the boat. So for that, I give myself a passing grade. Quote
ZB85 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I'm gonna say A+. I caught a 5 1/2 pounder then like a month later I caught my personal best that was just shy of 7 pounds. Also caught a handful of 3 and 4 pounders. So all in all last year was a great year and huge leap from the year I had before that. Quote
Patrick Morrow Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Nothing special, would have wanted to go fishing even more, but a lot of work ruined all the possible changes. I am happy about the catches thought, especially quite new species for me like perch and salmon. Quote
Logan S Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I had a great year. For me everything is related to tournaments...I do plenty of fun fishing, but it's always on waters that I have events on so I'm sort of always prefishing . -Won AOY -Cashed in 8 of 13 tournys, worst event all year was a 5th place finish. -Caught a limit every single tournament day but 1 (17 total tourny days) I put it at a solid A-. I can't give it the highest marks because I feel that I left a lot out there. I won only 1 event as opposed to 4 last year. I also made some bad decisions that really cost me in a few events. The biggest blunder was at Smith Mountain. Day 1 of the tournament there was the one day all year I failed to weigh in a limit. I was really trying to force an offshore bite and I just stuck with it way to long. Halfway thru Day 2 I scrapped everything and went to a shallow dock pattern (which is one of my strengths) and put together the heaviest limit of the event to salvage a 3rd place finish. If I had just gone into the event by playing my strengths instead of getting cute with my offshore deal I probably would have done much better. It bothers me just thinking about it now. Getting a limit every tournament day has been a top goal of mine for the past 5 or 6 years. It is very difficult to be that consistent and I've come within 1 day twice now...Boneheaded decisions cost me both times. Missing it by only a day is still something I'm proud of since it took a lot of hard work...Just stings when you know it was likely within reach if not for a bad descision. But all in all it was a great success...and most importantly, I had fun every time the boat left the trailer! Quote
0119 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 2014 was a C- for me. And only fishing with my best friend made it that. Size was poor, lost many a big fish at the boat. Numbers were down too. Weather played a big part and made the spawn season nearly non existent. 2015 has been a complete turn around. January alone surpassed all of 2014 and with the spawn just now ending number have been the best in years. Bigger bass too and hardly any lost fish. Quote
Catch 22 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 The only good thing about 2014 for me as far a fishing is concerned is that it's over. I simply cannot have another year as bad as last. Same for me. I had a good trip to Lake Ontario and we beat up on lots of good smallies. However one good trip does not make a good year. Local fishing was so ,so.The dark side[salt] was a struggle for the effort I put forth.I got shut out of the Lake Murray trip and the Charleton,SC trip already this year, because of cold water From the good stats I see on this thread, marking me on a curve would not do any good. I may be asked to stand in the corner til I promise to do better I may have to lower my standards or maybe average out over the last 10 years to achieve a decent mark. C 22 Quote
LunkercityVB Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 2014 id give a solid A- The spring came and went way too fast, got ahold of a ton of bed fish this year in the 5-7lb range, however the summer bite wasnt near what it was last year and thats the only reason for the A-. Last year i could catch a nice one anytime of the day on topwater, this year the summer consisted of flipping cover or thick lily pads. The fall was awesome. Caught 4 over 7 lbs in 3 weekends just before it got too cold on a black and blue dirty jig and one on a senko. Most all of the lakes here are frozen over now but im headed to south florida in 2 1/2 weeks to fish Okeechobee, the Everglades and some private Peacock bass pits to officially start my 2015 season. Hope its a good one. Tightlines Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 26, 2015 Super User Posted February 26, 2015 Both my 8 year old grandsons caught personal bests! PawPaw is Happy Happy Happy 2 Quote
bassguytom Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I'm giving myself a C for last year. I caught a lot of fish but have not spent enought time fishing offshore. I have all the electronics and equipment to find structure and fish it but always reverted back to the banks. This year I will go for some extra credit and learn to trust my electronics hoping to improve my grade. Quote
EmersonFish Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 2014 was an 'D'. Injury in my left foot has had me in a cast or boot much of the year. I bought a project boat that took up more of my free time than I would have liked it to, and I still just have a crumby boat to show for it. I'm about as broke as I can remember being. Did not fish a single tournament all year. Family health issues have taken priority over leisure. I am not going to miss 2014 at all. Only thing that kept it from being an 'F' was a trip to Lake Palestine in Texas early in the year where I was pounding them for 5 days straight. It was pretty much downhill from there. Quote
bassindon Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Only fun fished. No tourneys for 2014. I hit lots of big limits, 8 limits from 38 to 50 lbs (on a scale/scales) 7 of those all on video. Hit 14 DD's all on video but one (still shot) It was my best for most DD's in a year (no teens). Also made it to the 50 mark. Hard to put a grade on it when I hope to beat this too one year. You just never know how it will all unfold. It was a great year. Was happy to capture it and share it too. Im just glad to be playing out there. STOKED!!!! Good luck out there for 2015. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted February 27, 2015 Super User Posted February 27, 2015 Better and much more expensive than 2013. Bait Monkey's fault..... Quote
blackmax135 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 If I were in Kindergarten I would give myself an A+. If I were in high school C+. Still need to get confidence in more things than just soft plastics and buzzbaits. Quote
MichiganBass80 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'm giving myself a C+/B-. I got out at least once a week last year, so thats a bonus for me. Caught a lot of fish, a few big ones, but I gave myself a lower grade because looking back I feel like I limited myself to just a few techniques and maybe I could have caught more fish or more quality size fish had I tried a few more things. For the most part my fishing insisted of crankbaits, the dropshot, and a wacky rigged senko. I've already decided this year to fish more jigs, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits. and maybe get out to a little bit deeper water when it calls for it. Quote
matuka Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Overall a C-. Only had one memorable trip pounding Clear Lake with 25+lb limits three days in a row. The delta is my real exam paper however. Still have a lot to learn about punching and frogging. Avoided the skunk all year, and caught decent numbers. All of fall fishing was taken up by work. Quote
jignfule Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 "A " PB lmb 8.53# , PB smallie 4#+, Best year for quanity in the 4-8 pound range.Best year I've had for bigger fish in Idaho. Pretty good frog year too. 2 Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Outings-D Size-B Total numbers-C Okay year considering the times I got out. And caught some great size fish, but it was a hard bite to find. Quote
InfamousBG Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 C - because my boat had some big problems. I did fish a FLW BFL and did pretty well and loved it. C - overall though. Quote
Big C Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Bill Belichick answer: "I'm focused on next season." And my year was like Pete Carroll: "I have some regrets." 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted March 1, 2015 Super User Posted March 1, 2015 A+! First year of bass fishing and boy, was it a blast. Every technique I tried was new to me; and I tried a lot. 1 Quote
