Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Grabbed a halo daylight series Rod today for a new reel I got. I was really impressed with the entry level starlite series I had bought. And wanted to step up a notch, I called and talked to the folks at halo found the daylight has a better warranty and is a im7 blank for more sensitivity. Finish and fit is very nice. For a parabolic action Rod it is incredibly stiff not whippy at all. I went with a medium/heavy 7 foot spinning rod. Since I fish a decent amount of cover but with spinning year. The backbone is nice guides also nice. I'm impressed with the local florida company so far Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I saw you mention this company in another post. Thanks for reminding me to check them out. Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Yeah I tried one of there base models and it worked out really well so I tried the next step up. I've always personally drW. The line at like $80-90 for a Rod since I'm just a hobby fisherman. And that level of Rod performs just excellent for me. Just excited to find a nice local company with nice product. And I enjoy trying things with no real reviews or even negative ones and shedding some good light on them Quote

Rather micro guides will as well as using a dense material for your weights such as tungsten. You may also find that using a heavy rod like that will decrease your liking. If I was you I would have tried a couple rods out rather than going with the one local company. Also fishing a lot of cover you may want to invest into a bait caster with a high IPT. Spinning rods won't really be able to be a good sized bass out of cover, Especially if he gets hung up in there good. Just my advice. Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Oh I've had rods by star Rod, berkleys, Shakespeare, sil star, daiwa Over the years. Mostly fished salt water growing up. Just now getting into bass fishing. I have a baitcaster combo but since I throw mostly light soft plastics and real light lures I kinda focus on spinning gear. I've talked some here and dabbled with light baits on baitcaster and don't find it worth it. So I went with a medium heavy to compliment my other medium spinning rods. I appreciate all the replys and advice tho always Quote
sprint61 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I say if you like spinning reels stick with them! I can't use spinning reels very well but I can cast a bc like crazy ? Anyways I've had a 6'6 mh daylight for about 2 years it's a good little Rod I use if for Poppers. Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Awesome glad to hear! Eventually if I get into and heavy cranks or spinners I want to make a go at baitcatser. But for now mine throws frogs and chatter baits only. I throw everything else on spinning gear. And going medium heavy I can throw most anything I want for the most part depending on the cover. I was leaning towards another medium till talking to halo themselves and telling them where I fish mostly Quote
sprint61 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 There good rods the twilight series is really nice. Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 I love the two I have. Quality is great. The twilight is just a lil rich for my blood lol. I love quality but price can be a factor lol Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I'm actually fairly interested in the fabulously ugly starlite. Looks like it would make a great kayak rod. Other opinions? Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 I picked one up last week. The Rod is nice, light and fished excellent this weekend. We got on some nice lil bass. Rod loaded nice, I could feel the small tail biter bass no problem. For the $49 I was d**n impressed Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I wonder if I could find one on sale/ clearence. I know it seems crazy to say that- but I have found the field and stream inferno rod is pretty adequate for my inshore needs, and is $29 normally. I'm sure this rod is leaps and bounds better. .... but adequate and cheaper is where I am right now. Lol Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 I completely understand that. It's not a fashion contest and is all about affordability and performance for me Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Yeah. ... I'm still squeemish about taking my 3-400 dollar bass rigs out in my yak. Lol. So I use older rods and reels I have upgraded from. Still nice stuff, but I'd only cry a few days if I lost them. Lol. My inshore rods however are still a question mark for me, as I had been using lightening rods, and while they've been fine, I'm growing tired of their weight. But combining being in the yak with the abuse of saltwater- well.,. I want the best value I can get! I picked up the little F&S inferno on sale at dicks for $25 bucks and its been pretty awesome. Light , sensitive, and its landed many a redfish up to 26". So. ......yeah. .... Quote
SenkoGuru Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 It amazes me sometimes how people have very different opinions about rods. This is not a post to put Halo rods down at all but more to just talk about how different people think different stuff. I had wondered about Halo Rods for a very long time myself and last year I was sitting up at night looking at TW and just decided I'm going to buy a Twilite rod. I ordered a 7'6 MH and the first one TW sent me was split down the blank. It looked like some one had stepped on it and split it right down the center of the blank. I contacted TW and returned the rod and exchanged it for another. The next one I got had Rod eye's that were so badly lined up you would think it was a spiral wraped rod and the finish had pitt's in it where it was just chipped every where. I contacted TW again and sent it back and once more got another Halo Twilite. This time the rod looked good and had nothing wrong with it. I thought the rod looked cheaply made and didn't balance very well but decided to keep it and see how it fished. On my first fishing trip out with it I found a problem with the rod. It had no feeling at all, the rod just felt dead, when a Bass would hit my 5" Senko it would just be a very dull thud and some times you could miss the hit all together never feeling it. I was very unhappy with the rod, to the point that I was 100% convinced something was wrong with this rod too. I contacted Halo this time and I swapped the rod out with them for the exact same 7'6 MH Twilite. Once I went fishing again I had the exact same problem, I was fishing 14# Sea-Guar invisiX Fluorocarbon and could not feel a Bass hit my bait, the rod was just dead. I traded it a few weeks later to a guy for a 7'6 X-Hvy Duckett Ghost and never looked back. I am glad that you like the Halo rods and I hope you catch a ton of big Bass on it. after my dealings with halo I expected the company to go under soon but it looks like a lot of people are starting to like them. I wonder what the odd's are of all the rods I got from them being a bad batch? Quote
Joedodge Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Wow sorry to hear about the poor expierence. It is very funny how out perspective on things are individually. Or how we perceive deadness sensitive. 1 Quote

GREAT rod for this application. Finding quality unltralight rods can be tricky, and I just recently stumbled upon these at Dicks sporting goods. But these are super sensitive at in the UL version and have the perfect blend of backbone, not too much so you can sling a 1/16 oz jig, but not too much of a noodle either 1 Quote
bass raider Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I had a 7'3" med.hvy. daylite and with braid it was a very nice rod for the price but if l was using mono the rods moderate action combined with mono's stretchiness,l would miss quite a few fish.Their customer service in my experience was very good they answered every question l had. l have since parted ways with the halo(traded it for a 7'med. daiwa tatula)and other than a chip in the finish & a bent guide it still looked & performed pretty good.
