*Hank Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 What was your biggest crappie of 2014 and what did you catch it on? Mine was 16in.(2.5lbs) on a yellow marabou jig. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 24, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2015 I catch quite a few in the 14-14.5 inch range every year at one of the power plant lakes. They used to have to be 14" to keep out there and you could only keep 2 and keepers weren't hard to catch. Now it's 5 over 12" but the 14-14.5 inch fish are still common. I catch most of them on 3" power minnows on a 3/32oz head. I got on them about a month ago pretty good. I only fished for them for about 5 minutes because I found them stacked up on a single tree in 6' of water. We had a GoPro going and when I started I caught 8 crappie 14" or bigger in 54 seconds. Fishing straight up and down I never even reeled, just lifted them out and dropped my bait straight back down and was an almost instant bite every time. This was in 2015, but just to give an idea of the size I put one on a 3700 box, which is 14x9 inches. 1 Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted February 25, 2015 Super User Posted February 25, 2015 I didn't catch any slabs in 2014, but this is a fish from 2013, 13&1/4" long, my PB crappie. The bass was released, can't say the same for the crappie. My little brother landed two 14"ers in one day from his kayak back in November on lake anna...One of them hit a 6XD! I was jealous. Quote
MacP Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I caught a 17" out of my kayak while dragging a full size brush hog through some sunken trees. I thought I had a decent bass. Nope, huge crappie Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted February 25, 2015 Super User Posted February 25, 2015 Nothing over 14 for me last year, but my wife boated a 16 1/4 on a blue/silver lipless crank last year...for which the Commonwealth of Virginia sent her a nice certificate for her to hang on the wall. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I caught one that was almost 14.5 while jigging for walleye and pike with a lipless crank. Surprised the heck outta me. Quote
