TrapperJ Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Just got back from Lake Picachos! Had a blast, the numbers were a little down from what we had been hearing, I dont doubt them i think we just arrived a little to late. We went Feb 12-15. Just about all the fish we had caught had already spawned, and hadn't fattened back up yet. But still were highly aggressive and fun to catch! Day 1: 58 Day 2: 71 Day 3: 86 Day 4: 84 Most fish came off Senkos majority and then Lizards next. Not much topwater action and we used 1/4 to 3/8 weights on our lizards and senko seemed to get more bites over weightless. Caught a few fish on spinnerbait. Biggest was 3.5 with majority i'd say 1.5-2.5 range. Someone caught a 7# while down there but the sizes and amounts with the other camps were about the same. The only thing i would change is booking my trip sooner, maybe January next time. I took a tip from a fellow BR member and booked my trip thru the Locals at Picachos Bass Lodge. I couldn't be happier i did, had a blast with 3 other fishing buddy's plus we saved some money! Accommodations were great, food was excellent, and service was even better! I wouldn't hesitate to return to Picachos via Alma and her crew. If your thinking about going and want some info just ask away! Here is some footage of Day 1 Day 2 Footage! Day 3 Footage! Hopefully i'll edit the other days soon! Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Thank you. I appreciate the report and liked your videos. Not my business, I know, but I'm a little saddened that top end was 3.5. And I'm not sure what to think about having someone else take the fish off. I'm sure the guy's got to earn his tips and all....and I'd probably get used to it quickly.....but, it just feels a little off...like I'd be missing out on part of the catching experience....then again, he's more than welcome to the flopping 1.5 trying to drive triple trebles into my hand 1 Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 It was a bummer that we only caught a 3.5 for big fish, we new that going in that this is a lake not for big fish, just multple fish. We did figure we thought we'd atleast get one 4-5# but we should have went earlier, like Janurary. Just about all the fish we caught were spawned out, which was a bummer. But we made the best of it and had a blast just catching. During the better times its nothing to catch 150-200 a day. The bum thing was this lake was built as a water supply for the tourist town of Mazatlan so if they need water they draw the lake down and that jacks with the fish, and guess what happened just before we arrived they dropped it 10' you just never know when this could happen. Down there that is part of what the guide does to earn his money is take the fish off and help keep you rigged up. Its hard to let him do it at first but you get used to ha. Whats funny is these Mexican bass are some of the flopping-est large mouth i have ever seen. They are just different beast then the ones here in Oklahoma. Plus i tried to take my spinnerbait off of one went to grab the fish, guess what, went to flopping and slapped the trailer hook into my hand just past the barb! ouch! so had to yank that out and bleed everywhere and have a swollen hand. So after that i didn't mind him taking off the hooks especially on the spook catches! ha 1 Quote
KenG85 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Sounds like if they started eating the bass they might get a better trophy fishery. Cool videos. Catching is always fun! What I would do get out of this bitter cold!!! 1 Quote

If you measure the ice and don't go alone, some ponds are safe right now.... So yes, you CAN fish Quote
TrapperJ Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Day 3 of 4 is live, one day left, the final day my wife came to fish she just had to experience Mexican bass fishing just once. Even though she was comfortable in Mazatlan she had a blast, Quote
