I am wondering if you guys are surprised at the standings from the 2015 Classic? I wonder why they don't move the classic to a different time of the year or the water temperatures are warmer than 37° to 44°? Perhaps that would make a difference? Or is it better to make the conditions even more difficult like this to really test the skill of the competitors? Some of the bigger name pros didn't even make it into the top 10. I wonder if the weather had any bearing on this???

Not too surprised, I had 1, 2, 5, and 13 on my fantasy team!

There's a lot of parity in BASS right now, so I'm not real surprised by anything. With more big sponsor opportunity, a lot of the bigger FLW sticks are coming over and it's making the field that much deeper. I would guess most tournaments this season will have a similar feel to the standings and you won't have the traditional "top guys" dominating as much. Should be fun to watch.

It's kind of a mixed bag for me. On one hand I like seeing the pro's struggle and have to grind it out all day to get to the top. On the other I like it when they are in the fish and culling 5-6lb fish. It's exciting when a 8lb deficit can be overcome in one bite...

It was certainly possible on hartwell...big bass arent what make a tournament great imo

Its the competition for me and tough conditions can happen on any lake at any time of the year

Not really surprised by anything in the classic. It is such a different beast and thus there are no safe bets. The freezing rod guides was interesting thing to see the guys overcome. The only surprise for me was watching Dean "The Machine" Rojas with a spinning rod in his hand. I had never seen this before and had to do a double take. I know all the guys are pretty versatile, otherwise they wouldn't be at the classic however it still didn't look right.

I still think better weather time of the year would've been for w better showing. Yeah, pros are supposed to perform in all conditions, but let's make it worthwhile to see some huge fish caught a lot more.

I see what your saying, and I agree that I want to see a tight competition... but lets face it.... it's way more entertaining for everyone, fans and athletes to be catching big fish.

A tournament won by 1 lb with a total weight of 10-12lbs isn't near as exciting to me as a tournament won by 1 lb but with a bag of 25-30lbs.

just like in every final for every major sporting event, i just want to see a close race....

be it the world series, super bowl, fedex cup, march madness, i don't care which sport i just like close races!  so i don't care if they're weighing in 10 pound bags or 30+ pound bags as long as the race isn't decided until it's over....  but that's just me.

The timing is normally prespawn.  Think if the weather had been what it had been on the west coast the prior month before this.  Temps in the 80's water temps pushing into the high 50's.  There would have been more limits, bigger fish and thus more what more excitement.  Enter Mother Nature to throw Artic Cold Front, freezing temps, low water temps.  The dates are set to fish but weather is never certain.  The last few years the weather has been a bit cooler then normal but they still catch fish and make it exciting in closer weights.  The Classic used to be held in the summer way back when but was moved.  I enjoy watching these guys catch fish in conditions most of us scratch our heads, stay inside and decide to wait till it's nicer outside yet they still put together limits of fish, and some nice bags of fish as well.  The end of Febuary is a crap shoot when it comes to weather, but it's one factor that plays into the tournament and must be overcome when you're competing on that stage.

I was surprised that brandon palaniuk did so poorly.  Someone made a good point about having it in the winter.  The lakes arent as loaded with summer recreational boaters ect.

You also have to realize the strategy that plays into the Classic is different than the average tournament. Throughout the year these guys fish to make a check to pay the bills and a lot of times that means fishing conservatively. In the Classic, all the bills have been paid and the pros all go out with a hero or zero type mentality. They're all fishing to win because nobody remembers second place at the Classic. The downfall with that approach is that if you make the wrong gambles you will end up down the list so you see a lot more big names towards the bottom than normal.

really? I thought that one was uniquely interesting

I agree. In a tournament where every single bite is so crucial and you have to perform perfectly, it's about as exciting as it gets for me. Just ask A-mart how critical it was not to lose a fish in that Classic  :eyebrows:
