I can get the Lew's for $120 shipped, or go to Wal-Mart and get the Bucoo Micro for $106 out the door.

The HM85 is using Fuji KR Concept guides, the Bucoo looks to be Fuji NGC.

This will be for all around bank fishing.

Not interested in book value, I can find that out myself...just want to know which one is better.

Opinions?

Never fished the Falcon, but spent a good bit of time with a 6'9" MH/Fast HM85. The Lew's Rod was great for T-Rigs, Tubes, Jigs, Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Traps, small Squarebills, Jerks, Topwaters( Poppers, Spooks, Devil Horses, etc.). I think it would make a fantastic all around Bank Rod. I replaced it with a Loomis Edge 705-1 Mag Bass. While the Loomis is a better rod all around, I don't know if it's $350 better. Brian.

I never hear of no one using lews rods. You can't go wrong with a falcon thought good made rods.

I have many rods and reels and I truly love everyone of them. I especially love the great ones I got at a great price. I have the falcon bucoo micro 7'2 mh that I ordered from tackle a few years ago and it's by far the best rod I have. Extremely light and super strong. I think Wally World has the 7' mh here in my town and that's a steal at that price. I love lews and use a lot of their reels but the rods are a little heavy that I have...haven't tried the new speed stick tho.

Grant...that's what I hear. They just got a new rod engineer and those white rods are his first introduction. The staff said they are beyond incredible.

Lunker...I have 2x Tournament SL Speed Sticks that I got for a steal. ($59, & $44) Haven't had them in the water yet but they feel good practicing in the yard.

The only reason I brought this thread into being is because moboy (sfo) is selling the HM85 rods for$99 on eBay...but I can get the Bucoo Micro for $99 at Wal-Mart still.

They have the 6'6"MH, 7'MH, & 6'10"H.

I like the Lews Hm85 rods.. All my rods have ACS reel seats or in this case a hybrid.

I have not fished with those Lew's rods but own and use one Bucoo 7'MH (Trap Caster) and other Falcon Cara rods. I would say it is a toss-up as to which one is best, for you. IMO, for an all-around bank rod, the Bucoo 7'MH or 7'2"MH would be a fine choice. And, I believe Falcon has more bass-specific rods/actions to choose from in the Bucoo lineup.

i own the Falcon Bucoo 7 MH trap caster and for an all around rod it is great. I fish it mostly for traps, small cranks, and square bills but that is because I have other rods to do lots of other things. I do not think you will be disappointed in it. Sometimes at the end of season Wall Mart sells them for $40. That is what i paid for it and 2 of my friends did the same.

Never fished a Bucoo, but have a few other Falcon models.  Good rods and good customer service.  I broke an Expert....totally my fault and I told Falcon exactly what happened.  They sold me a $200 Cara rod for $80.  Needless to say I was pleased.

No experience with the HM85, but I think smalljaw67 bought one or two when they had a big sale on them about a year ago.,  If I remember correctly he was impressed with the rod.  Dan is having worse than usual health problems right now, but if he feels well enough to get online, he would be more than willing to give you has take on the HM85.  Might even have some experience with the Bucoo.  He is one of the nice guys (plenty on here.  :D ) and will help whenever possible.

I've got the Bucoo Trapcaster like a number of folks here. I can't stop using it. It fits the bill for a number of different techniques. Right now it's my designated topwater rod. It's been a jerkbait rod, spinnerbait rod, lipless crankbait rod...

I have two Lews HM85 rods. I bought one and liked it enough to buy a second. I've never used a Falcon rod, so I can't compare.

The Bucoo is a nice rod and is lighter than the HM85 and if you are throwing moving baits it would be my choice. If you intend to use it as an all-purpose rod or fish bottom contact I'd go with the HM85. I have both, I got the HM85 last year and what impressed me the most was the level of sensitivity, I thought it would be a good rod for flukes but it became my tube rod due to the amount of feel it has. Of course it is all a mute point without knowing which model and what type of baits you are throwing but as I said, if you want an all-purpose or a bottom contact then the HM85 is the better choice.
