poolecw Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 The 4.0 upgrade for the Elite HDI units is supposed to improve performance with the Navionics map cards. Has anyone sen an improvement? I want to get the Navionics + card but don't want to spend the $199 just to end up being frustrated and disappointed. 1 Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 You can improve the chart performance without updating the software. Just don't load the Navionics+ card up with data you don't use. Individually select each body of water you want coverage for and ONLY download those. Less data to process= faster processing. 4 Quote
poolecw Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Thanks for the info and the PM. do you think that adding only 6 or 7 decent sized lakes would be too much?... Chickamauga,Nickajack, G'ville,Wiess, Carter's, oconee, and Sinclair would be the only lakes I would ever need. You can improve the chart performance without updating the software. Super User Wayne P. Posted February 23, 2015 Super User Posted February 23, 2015 No, that is very little considering that the Navionics+ card is 2GB and the Navionics Hotmaps Premium regional cards are 2GB. The Premium East has 21 states. Quote
stfreed Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I bought the plus card and liked the ability to hand pick the lakes I wanted. However I was also counting on logging and uploading my data on some WV lakes that are not mapped but when I went through the whole process I got an email back from Navionics that said they are not allowed to use my Lowrance data! That info would have been nice to know before I bought the Navionic plus card. Lowrance wants you to buy their Insight Genesis version ! Nice that they do not tell you this till after you buy the card, and spend all the time logging and then the time uploading..... and btw we will keep your loggings in case we can use them later...... poolecw Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Thanks for the info. That does suck that you can't use a $200 product the way you want to. Can you tell me if the unit runs slow trying to update the map on the screen while running a cruising speeds? Quote

How long ago was that you got that message? You can upload sonar logs with the Sonar Charts program with a Lowrance unit. Some Navionics reps have been posting pictures of Sonar Charts mapping done with Lowrance units in the past 6-10 months. A friend of mine has done it a few times. Have you checked the Navionics Web App to see if your data has been applied? You don't record on the Navionics card though. Use a blank formatted memory card. Quote
stfreed Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Just in the past few weeks. Yes I have went to the Web app and nothing there. I did indeed save the files to a blank SD card. It all went as expected, the site uploaded all my files then a few days later I got an email from Navionics saying Lowrance wont let them use their files. They said I could save my files in gpx format but A) I can not figure out how to save those logs from my unit in that format and I can not go out and try and log new files because the water is hard as ice. :-) Quote
nyghtryder_9 Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I had the same issue. What you have to do is start a new TRAIL once you get on the lake. Make sure save log settings are time/1 sec. When your done for the day just stop the trail log. Go to files, then waypoints/routes/trails, hit export and then change file type to gpx exchange, hit export then choose location. Choose whatever name for it and then hit save. When you put your SD card in and sign into navionic chart installer it will let you upload the log. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 28, 2015 Super User Posted February 28, 2015 I got a message from Navionics that Lowrance will not let them process sonar logs done with Elite units. I suggest you contact Lowrance and let them know your displeasure with the decision. Quote
