Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2015 Fished the same power plant lake as last week with Peter (Wachati), Friday. It was COLD all day, sun never came out like it was supposed to, and it never made it above 40 like it was supposed to (never felt like it made it above 30 honestly). We started out pretty fast with Peter catching a white bass on his first cast I think? Then he had a largemouth and I got a stout smallie on my homemade bladed jig. We both got a couple more with me getting a smallie and a largemouth on my Doc-Drew custom painted jerkbait. Since they were biting good I decided to toss the Deps 175 Slide Swimmer a little bit, I had a hard time putting it down after that. I missed 10-20 more fish that just rammed it without opening their mouths (smallmouth), or fish that just didn't stay stuck. I didn't take pictures of all of the fish I caught on it either. It was taking a very slow retrieve, two short, soft cranks of the reel handle, then they'd try to jerk the rod out of my hands Once I got them firing on the swimbaits they didn't touch much else. 9 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 22, 2015 Author Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2015 You know you had a good day when you have to make a second post to finish putting up the pictures 9 Quote
HookdUP Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Nice ..love it when they're biting the swimbait Quote

Super User everythingthatswims Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 What were the weights on some of those largemouth? NICE JOB Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 Wow!! Great job, dude. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Global Moderator Posted February 23, 2015 What were the weights on some of those largemouth? NICE JOB I didn't weigh or measure any of them but there wasn't any over 4 pounds. They were all hard pulling and slamming the bait, plus any swimbait fish is a good fish. 1 Quote
Dogmatic Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Nice! I read that it's difficult to work the smaller 175 compared to 250, obviously not a problem for you. Quote

That's my reasoning for not really wanting one, if I spent that kind of $$$ and ended up with a bait that is quirky and difficult to fish, I would not be a happy camper. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 24, 2015 Author Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2015 I have 2 175s, both way easier to fish than my 168 S Wavers. I paid $50 to my door for the one in the pictures And $70 for my Clear Smelt one. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Good Lord Bluebasser! Catching fish! I don't know if you had time to feel cold , or maybe it just didn't matter!, lol.. In your new boat? I bet... Quote

I paid $50 to my door for the one in the pictures And $70 for my Clear Smelt one. Good to see someone having success w/ the relatively common and affordable 175, despite the rumors. I've read that smaller "glides" don't have the action or "fishability" as the larger ones. Other than the S-wavers, I haven't had any experience w/glides, but I do have a newly purchased Killer Instinct 9" and 250 just waiting for ice out. After seeing these pictures, could have saved a butt load, and gotten 2, or 4 175's! Quote

Of course, your fish may have already seen a 250 compliments of SpeedBead! Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Awesome day Bluebasser86 I think you mean you stole the baits for $50 and $70! What a deal You can get them all day long for that price. I had 2 and they cost me $45 and $55. The bait has been around for quite some time now. Even the new release of the 175 can be had for $75-100. Quote

I'm still not sure that bait will ever actually get to him. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Wow! That is the way to beat the cold, Good job! Quote

That bait sold itself, when the morning bite died off for me, the only thing they wanted was your 175, and I got to watch you put on a clinic. Trying to decide on a new rod for throwing them, maybe something I can dual purpose with arig. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Is that a Ghost Ayu? Looking to pick that up if I can find a favorable price. Great pics & heck of a day! Quote
