PAGreg Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I'm a PA resident looking to fish the Susquehanna flats. Thus, my boat is registered in PA. I assume I'll need a non resident freshwater license. Do I also need the sportfishing boat sticker that I see mentioned? Quote
troutbum1 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Hi, I believe it works like this. Your boats O.K. for Maryland waters. You will need a non resident lic. But only you can fish on the boat with this lic. Now if you get the non resident boat fishing lic , then every one on the boat can fish from it. But only you can fish from any Maryland shore. Other people you bring can only fish from the boat. Check the Maryland DNR web to be really right. Hope this helped, if i'm right. Quote
PAGreg Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Thanks for the reply. It definitely highlights why its confusing. Quote
Logan S Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) You will need a MD Chesapeake Bay and Coastal Sport license for anything that is tidal (boat or shore fishing). MD has a separate non-tidal license for anything not connected to the bay or above the fall line in rivers, which you won't need if you only fish the upper bay/flats. There is also a federal NOAA registration but it's automatically done with the Bay sport license so you don't need to worry about it.You don't need the boat sport fishing license, that covers everyone in the boat...it's similar name to the bay sport license is confusing. Also the fact that the bay sport license covers freshwater and saltwater depending on where you fish is a bit confusing.Boat-wise you don't need to do anything, same safety standards apply everywhere.Quick and easy answer is that you need a non-resident, Chesapeake Bay & Coastal Sport Fish License license to fish the Upper Bay for bass. ETA: Megastink is right about the PRFC license...We never worry about it because the Bay sport license for MD residents is the same price. Might be cheaper for a non-resident to just get the PRFC. Megastink Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 You could get a Potomac River Fisheries Commission license. That's what all the guys in my club get. Our club is based in Lansdale, Pa. It'll cost you about $50, but then you're good for ANY tidal water in the Potomac River Basin. 2 Quote
PAGreg Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Does the PRFC then cover anyone fishing in the boat? It appears that then Consolidated Chesapeake Bay & Coastal Sport Boat License is the way to go as it allows anyone in the boat to fish and is pretty much the same price as a single non resident fishing license. Megastink Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I don't own a boat, but I know that there's a license that'll cover whoever is fishing in the boat. Quote
