It's warming up some so I decided to hit a couple spots that I don't really go to often. Managed a few dinkers and this feisty beast. All came on a trigged roboworm alive shad with a 1/8 weight dragged and hopped on the bottom. This was also my first good fish on my ML carbonlite. I think a BFS bug has been born.

Thanks! We actually had freeze watches and warnings a few days ago so this warm weather was nice and the fish thought so too.

I'm trying to catch em for you northern guys but I can't get out there often enough! With these good sized fish I've had so far this year, I'm hoping to break my PB.

Hey I.rar, I am in the westchester area, but grew up in the South Miami area, my parents are still in SM, so Tropical Park is my go to spot because of it's closeness.

Nice fish btw! I am glad it warmed up a bit this weekend because its been brutal. Not for me, cause I don't mind the cold, but for the fish lol.

Nice catch, but to be honest I looked longer at the pic of the water.

Tropical is nice and it is never crowed (for fishing) the park is jammed on weekends but very few fishing. Weeds, pads open water - it has it all.

Nice. I've always wanted to check out the fishing at tropical Park but never went because of what doyle said. I haven't been there in years, but isn't the parking a bit far from the lakes?

Had some brief UL pea action and a good 15" LM. Both on a 3" senko. Today is the warmest it's been in a couple weeks and the exotics are definitely out and active. The weather looks to be stable for the next week or so, so hopefully the fishing will be too.

Yeah there are times when I've seen a few people fishing but you're right its generally not a cause for concern. I like fishing the weeds and pads on the north lake. I haven't had any luck in the open water. I've talked to a few people there who have told me they have caught a 6 or 7 pounder but I haven't caught anything bigger than a 2, 2.5 at best. I have seen 2 biguns though. Both times just swimming casually patrolling the waters. Nothing I threw at them peaked their interest in the slightest.

Parking isn't to far, depends on where you park. You don't have to fish in the "designated fishing area" .

I'm always looking for new places to try. Unfortunately Tropical is the only place near me that I know of that isn't a residential area with no access. There are some canals but I've had minimal success in those.

Nice pea! They are beautiful fish and fight like they are twice their size.

Tell me about it. I love catching them this size on the UL. Of course bigger is always better but I get an awesome fight and bring em in quickly.

There were also some others schooled up behind this one but my fishing partner got cranky and wanted to head home. I'll get em another day.

My fishing partner, lol.

I've caught bigger on UL tackle but these are the first on this new rod. Nothing a bit of finesse, skill and patience can't handle.

Earlier this month...

Alright then your fishing partner is excused and is allowed to be cranky! LOL, thats funny.

Wow that other one is pretty darn big. Well done on that UL rod. What kind of reel is that?

Thanks! It's a stradic 1000 ci4+. I had it on a Daiwa procyon while I waited for the Fenwick to come in. Best tackle purchase I've made in a very long time.

Caught a couple peas this afternoon on both watermelon/black flake and pink/bubblegum 3 inch senkos. They were in the 1 pound range but fought like champs on the UL. Also had a small LM that unhooked itself a few feet from the shore with an epic jump.

These were hooked up right behind a patch of weeds in front of a drop off. Not much activity in the shallows.

Sorry, no pics from this outing.

Had some BFS fun before these storms started rolling in.

Another that fell for the 3" senko.

Thanks!

The post today was just one fish. Caught a smaller one before on a different Lake with a 3" senko.

Those lake fork baby shad are like candy to peas
