BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 21, 2015 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 21, 2015 I bought 2 Rainshadow RX 7 blanks not paying attention to the fact they are 2 piece. I was paying more attention to the $38 price tag because they are discontinued. Not really wanting 2 piece rods, is there any reason not to epoxy the pieces together without using a ferrule? Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 Put in in your power wrapper, or drier, to make sure it's straight, and remains that way until the epoxy starts to set. You can imagine why I know this. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 A modern two piece blank has built in ferrules. No need to add them. You can epoxy the pieces together or just slide them together and leave them that way. There's nothing to be gained really. Your call. 1 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I use quite a few two piece rods as they're easier to transport on planes. You really don't notice they're two piece once you're fishing them, the only disadvantage is the narrow choice of blanks you have compared to one piece blanks. I wouldn't bother gluing them together myself, you never know, you might want to travel sometime and having a couple of two piece rods could be very handy. Quote
adam lancia Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 The only thing I can think of you potentially noticing, whether by how it fishes or just visually, is if it's a very light, parabolic blank and you notice the potential dead spot in the blank where the 2 pieces join. That's assuming it should still bend at that point along the blank. Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I have two of them and I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised at the sensitivity of them. I always thought that most of the sensitvity would be reduced at the inheirent 'dead spot' If you're looking to sell one or both off, pm me. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Yup. The reason a lot of two piece rods feel dead is because they are low quality blanks in general aimed at the casual angler. Fly rods have come is 2-4 pieces for years and exhibit excellent sensitivity, power and durability from quality blanks. False casting a 9' rod and fighting a steelhead will be a lot tougher on a blank than the average pitch and reeling in of a bass. Quote
Super User MickD Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 there is no reason to epoxy them together. Nothing will be gained. You'.. lose the flexibility of easy travel. Quote
