Super User Jig Man Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 Making a bondo mold isn't hard. All you need is a non stick pan some baits some glue and some bondo. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Just to clarify, the above pic is of fiberglass resin not bondo. This resin happens to be made by the company named "Bondo" but actual "bondo" is different than fiberglass resin. "Bondo" in general is "body filler" Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 LIB learn sumpin ever day. ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 me2, now I know you can obviously use resin also ps- Body filler also comes with glass in it, it goes by different names, tiger hair, etc, but you want the filler with NO HAIR "Bobdo's" version http://www.bondo.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=241 Quote
Triton_Mike Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Guys, I can't find that article that I did on the mold making that I did. My mold wasn't made out of Bondo but it was made out of Durhams water putty. It was a lead mold. If you want a plastic mold the guy above is on the right track. Another good option would be RTV Silicone which is what several companies use ie lurecraft for their plastic molds. Mike Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 anyone ever try a 2 sided resin mold? If so what did you use to keep the halves from sticking together? Quote
Rayraff Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 anyone ever try a 2 sided resin mold? If so what did you use to keep the halves from sticking together? You could probably use with Vaseline like you use for plaster molds, I'm not sure though. Wait for the first layer to dry, then smear the Vaseline over everything then pour the second layer. Quote
bowtech_182 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 anyone ever try a 2 sided resin mold? If so what did you use to keep the halves from sticking together? spray silicone, you can get it at Wal-mart in the auto section Quote
Saladmander Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 or PVA, poly-vinyl-alcohol. It's a mold release that I used to use when doing glass work on custom car installs. Quote
