Brocephus Fishing Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Predictions for day 2? Possible weather changes forthcoming or possible major jumps within the field? Delay or no delay? Is Ashley still the favorite? Not sure about everyone else, but I'm excited to see what day 2 holds considering possbile cloud cover and air temperature increases. I heard a lot of anglers in hopes of temperature changes for Saturday. Either way, day 2 is sure to be eventful. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Weights are gonna jump up. I can't see anyone doing much better than Rojas did on the first day though. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 The only possible reason that weights would improve would be because the fishermen enjoyed the warm up, it certainly won't help the fish. Cloudy skies and a projected high temp in the 40's isn't going to warm up the water enough to turn them on. As a matter of fact, tonight's low temps before Saturday's blast off will probably make the fish even more lethargic. I find it amazing that most of these "pros" hadn't planned ahead. Have a few reels on hand that were stripped of grease and lubricated with a little graphite instead would have cured reels freezing up as any winter steelhead fisherman could have told them. What about the old trick of using vegetable oil in a spray can (Think PAM) to reduce icing on rod guides. More problems this morning with ice cold temps almost assures us that future classics are heading further south. The only people who enjoy outdoor sports on ice have a hockey stick in their hands. Catch 22 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Several contenders mentioned missing the early bite because of the time delay. That should improve today assuming they start on time. Its seems strange to me that the bite is very early and /or late in the winter. However bass fishing around here is exactly the same way. If your not on the water at day break and get in the first two hours, you have missed the best bite of the day. Frost ,guides iceing and frozen hands are the norm. C 22 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Day 2 ~ Last years dark horse & Second Place Classic finisher Paul Mueller already has a limit & is CULLING before 9 AM. Looks like he has no intention of being a bride's maid this year . . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Lots of anglers jumping up the board... I really am rooting on Casey Ashley, he' s a good guy and an amazing angler. Quote
ColdSVT Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Jacob wheeler culling and into the top five. Several limits already Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Wheeler is a great fisherman from Indiana, lol.. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Davy Hite is a pleasure to listen to - great presentation. A-Jay Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 My fantasy team is doing well so far. Just need powroznik to cull some weight and Montgomery to step u0. Figured being from sc would help him more. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Wasn't that Glenn that Zona just walked by after interviewing the legend Don Levino? 1 Quote
Brocephus Fishing Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 One thing's for sure, I don't know how Howell has been able to keep the bite that he has. Confidence I guess, but his display has been rather impressive. Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Yup! Good eye! When I saw you I thought he walking over to you for an interview. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 Wow! This tournament is tight! Howell catches one ounce more today than yesterday, Ike on he's jig bite! Takahiro. Not sure what his fish are coming on, squarebill? It's going to be a nail biter tomorrow...great tournament.. Rojas does half as good, as day one. I think Rojas is depleted, lol Kermit the frog is history!! Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 It should be good tomorrow with the rain moving in, cold water fishing. I'm watching to see what I can learn. Exciting Classic so far! Quote
ColdSVT Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Id love to see rojas win it But im rootin for wheeler! Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 Swindle was in rare form during his weigh in interview. He has to think up his jokes between fish. Quote
WolfyBrandon Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I've been really loving this classic so far! I've been thinking about my top angler picks and it's been Very Tough! I've done a lot of thinking about it and I believe I have my personal top picks. Going into Day 3 they stand as... 1) Dean Rojas 2) Michael Iaconelli 3) Randy Howell 4) Takahiro Omori 5) Casey Ashley 6) Brett Hite This is just my personal list of who I would like to win / how I would like it to play out. I hope Dean Rojas pulls off the win for multiple reasons. Having the incredible weight on Day 1 after both the late start and his 28 min penalty (he had the least time to fish). Various things I have heard throughout the Classic. The similarities between the 2004 Classic with himself and Takahiro. Lastly the look in his eyes when he said it would mean everything to him to Mercer. So even though he was someone I really was not considering on Day 1, after everything that has happened... the guy has my vote. I think it's his time to win the classic, and hope he can pull it off! 2nd Place / My second option for 1st Place, would be Michael Iaconelli. Even though he missed a fish on day one, he has really held his own in the standings... and even pulled himself within 11oz of the 1st place weight with the missed fish. Following the Live Stream, I liked how he was fishing, and felt he was doing the right thing to help him build a solid weight. I have other reasons why I would like to see him win, but as much as I would be happy with that (as he is a very close second choice), I would simply like more to see Rojas win this one because of what I mentioned above, and he has yet to win a Classic. My other placings are more complex, first I will say I really like Randy Howell, I think he is a great guy and I loved the commentary he was doing on Live, but honestly I think him not winning might help him more, simply because I see him fishing the same stuff and same baits - Granted that seems to be the right thing to do as he is in contention to win... I can't really fault him for it, and he did mention that he was "Fishing the Moment" with all the birds and current so I felt he was doing the right thing anyway. I'm still rooting for him and if he can continue to catch them good I hope he places high possibly 2nd or 3rd. Both Casey Ashley & Takahiro Omori seem to be very consistent and depending on how things go I think they both have a chance at winning it if others slip, but I feel / hope the winning weight is won by someone who is doing something different and catching those bigger fish since they both seem to be missing that kicker fish to really pull ahead of the pack. Takahiro seems to have a slight upper hand with more weight at the end of Day 2, and if they both are still consistent like the previous days I place either of them in 4th or 5th. I think both Paul Mueller & Coby Carden are great anglers and great guys, but I think it's a little early for a win, and again I am hoping Rojas can pull it off! Lastly I picked Brett Hite for 6th place. Just from what I have seen of him he is an amazing angler, and seems to also be consistent in this tournament. He has dropped from 4th on day one, down to 6th on day two, but still has 29-7. So If he can continue to catch them on Day 3, I think he could possibly move up or keep his current standing. That is just my personal list going into Day 3, and is more of what I would "like" to see, than what might "actually" happen. Honestly I would be happy with any of the top 10 guys winning. On Day 1 I was rooting for Greg Hackney, but my personal favorite is now Dean Rojas for this one. I know tomorrow the weather is said to change and anything could happen, especially with potential 20lb bags. The thing I notice is on Day 1 both Skeet & Rojas had 20lb+ bags... then when things changed it didn't work out for Skeet but Rojas was able to hold on with a solid 10lb+ bag. I hope he can continue to catch them good on Day 3, and end up winning this 2015 Bassmaster Classic. WolfyBrandon 1 Quote

WolfyBrandon Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 If Rojas or Iaconelli catch their 5th fish, and it's a good one... Watch Out! WolfyBrandon 1 Quote
