Hello folks, I'm buying the Z man chatterbait in the 3/8ths size. I was wondering what trailers and sizes you would recommend brand/color wise? Color will be white(Multiple suggestions much appreciated).

I'm also buying a double bladed white buzzbait in 3/8ths and would like trailer idea brand/color and size information.

Lastly if anyone knows the size of the slide off weed guard that I'll need for the chatterbait since I plan on swimming it through some break and weedy areas that TW sells, that would be great. Thanks for any help

Chatterbait - Bruiser Baits Evil Twin, Super Swimmer Jr or Rad Shad (all have worked well for me) ... Rad Shad or Zoom Fluke for that matter works well as the blad will provide the necessary vibration you need.

Buzzbait - Z-Man Split Tail (place a trailer hook over top of it and virtually never have to replace it) or Zoom Split Tail (also with a trailer hook over top of it)

Both trailers in white if you're throwing a bait with a white skirt. However, feel free to experiment with a chartreuse or shad colored trailer. I have found that both work well in certain situations. If you plan on working a buzzbait without the skit, virtually any smaller sized swimbait will be sufice, but fluke style baits have proven themselves more than worthy for me to this point.

I've never used a slide off weed guard. However, I'm prett sure the 3/8oz Z-Man chatterbait has 3/0, possibly a 4/0, hook on it. At $2.79 for the weed guards you could always purchase both and see what fits. Unfortunately I am not of much help with the exact size. I have found that I can work a chatterbait through just about anything, as well as a buzzbait.

The Chatterbait was one of my biggest producers last year. My #1 rigging

was a white Chatterbait or Rage Blade with a white Rage Structure Bug for

the trailer.

The only buzzbait I fish is the MegaStrike Cavitron. I fish 3/8 oz, but will be

trying the new 1/2 oz size. I never use a trailer. My favorite colors are black

on black.

You do not need a weed guard on the Chatterbait, it comes through cover

very well.

For buzz baits I use keitech and missile bait shockwaves.

Pm bluebasser86 on his Big Head Wobbler bladed jig. Much better action, colors and quality than z man.

I like the Omega Alpha Shad buzz bait. Effortless to keep up and really calls them up. Black on black or black on gold.

Over the years, I've found when I was going to commit to the buzz bait and throw it for half an hour or so, the best buzz bait trailer for me was a larger pork frog or one of those pork lizards.  It adds to the weight of the bait, so you can throw it farther and it creates a drag so it is a little easier to keep it on top going a little slower.   Color really doesn't matter I don't think, because all you're really doing is creating a shape for the fish to focus in on.   Brown or green/white spots are probably the most readily available.    I'd probably throw a half ounce buzz bait.  The extra weight might get you a little more distance and distance = covering the water and that is what is important with a buzz bait more often than not.

I've had my best luck with a 4" GYBC single tail grub. I keep coming back to the GYBC grub because it works so well. I've tried many, many different brands but the pulse of it just seems to work the best for me. (including a buzzbait).

Havoc Grass Pig Jr, 2/3 of a 5" stick worm, 1/2 of a trick worm, Rage Menace or Havoc Pit Boss rigged sideways-chatterbait

buzzbait-no trailer

I never fish a weedguard on my bladed jigs. If I'm fishing woody areas I have a weedless version that I make just for those situations.
