gunsndrums1 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Hi new to the forums. Does anyone have any advice on heddon torpedos. My teeny torpedos (the ones that are about 1/2 inch long) the propellers wont turn in water. Im not sure if they are hitting the hook and cant turn or what is going on. Ive searched up about this and havent found any luck with it, ive tried turning the eye out and it hasnt helped. Also, the teeny torpedo seems to sit mostly in the water with just the head of the plug and my knot on topwater, is this supposed to be that way? I have fullsized torpedo that doesnt have any of these problems. Thanks Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 It's hard to judge your prop problem without seeing it. As for it setting tail heavy, throw it you might be surprised. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 When a bait is as light as the ones you are talking about, retrieve speed has a lot to do with how the blade turns. Try a quick burst of speed and stop. If you do not see the blades churning water then your plug may be defective. You can also hold it vertically and blow on the blade. If it turns freely, the plug is fine. You then just have to alter your retrieve speed to get the desired action. This plug really shines with a stop & go retrieve when there is a bit of a breeze on the water. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 What line size are you using? Those are very sensitive and need to fished on light line with a spinning rod, no more than 8lb mono. Check the blade by blowing on it or flicking it with your finger to see if it will move freely. Super User Munkin Posted February 22, 2015 Super User Posted February 22, 2015 You can bend the blades back some and they will spin easier. Holding the rod tip high helps as well from what I remember. Allen Quote

I am a huge fan of Heddon torpedo's and I have fished the smaller "teeny" version for smallmouth on light line. Not sure what you are fishing for but I can tell you that a 2+ pound smallmouth can and will pull the rear eye screw right out of this bait, losing prop and treble. I have had happen with 3 different baits. On my remaining baits I have super glued the rear eye screw in hopes of keeping this from happening again. They are a ton of fun on ultralight gear. Quote
gunsndrums1 Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 I'm using 20 lb test braid which is equivalent to 6lb mono or fluorocarbon. But I figured it out. I angled the blades of the prop to look almost like a boat motor propellor, and they both turn freely now. Now that I know how to properly rig these I'm gonna look into more colors thanks everyone for all the help Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Back the hook hanger out and twist the blades a bit, so they're at an angle, like a propeller blade. If it still won't turn take the back hook hanger off and enlarge the hole in the prop. Quote
