ABW Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 What are some good sunglasses with glass lens that will last me quite a while? I have a smallish-medium face and I want to keep it around 100 dollars. I looked at some Costas with the 400G lenses, are these any good? Quote
ABW Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 I probably will end up buying some 580G's but are there any other suggestions out there? I mean, you only get two eyes in your entire life so you might as well get the best, right? Quote
WildcatBassin Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I honestly believe that Costas will be your best bet. I wear mine all the time, whether i'm on the water or not. I have no affiliation with Costa just giving you my honest opinion. Quote

Super User Darren. Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 "Other" suggestions that the 580G? Nope I bought the Brine 580G. Love 'em. Not a scratch on 'em after a few years. Great set of glasses that I don't regret buying for one minute. Tried on Maui Jim's and other brands, but the Costa's fit my head better and, well, I just love 'em, LOL. YMMV When I say "tried" it wasn't "bought", but tried them on at various sunglasses outlets... Quote

I may just have to hope for the best and order online... I bought mine on ebay from a reputable dealer with a very high rating. I think I paid $160 for the glasses. A bit less than Bass Pro, etc. They are legit, but there are fakes out there so you have to be careful. Quote
gunsndrums1 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Try buying polarized oakley flak jackets. They run over $100 but you might be able to get them cheaper on ebay or from a lenscrafters if you put it on insurance. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 21, 2015 Super User Posted February 21, 2015 Go to Eye Surrender, $50 and $60 bucks depending on which one and you get a great pair, they are light and the lenses really cut glare without making everything dark. They have a nice selection of lens choices and the frames are TR-90 which are light, in fact they are that light and comfortable I forget I'm wearing them and only realize it when I'm in the house and everything seems a bit dark. WildcatBassin Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Which ones do you have? I have the Cat Cays with the blue mirror in the 580G. I did a bunch of research on which tint to get and I came to the conclusion that the blue mirror is all around the best for different fishing situations and wearing them off the water also. It was between the blue and green mirror, I don't think you could go wrong with either. Quote
curtis9 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I have costa 580s in green lens. Best fishing purchase I've ever made. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Oakley Flak Jackets and Fuel Cells work for me. I'm loving the polarized Amber on my Fuel Cells. Quote
Lasher Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Has anyone had experience buying costa's from Steep and Cheap. They have some great prices. http://www.steepandcheap.com/gear-cache/stunning-sunnies Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 Polarized for fishing for sure, for just being outside I don't care for them. Never saw the ball well when I was playing golf and driving my car if I was at angle the LCD displays were too dark. Everyday use I prefer traditional sunglasses, for me it's prescription. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted February 24, 2015 Super User Posted February 24, 2015 costas are nice... had mine over a year now, no scratches at all. also, that lifetime warranty is awesome. i had some maui jims once that were awesome, lightest weight glasses ever, but they were also not as durable as my costas. Dogmatic Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Can't go wrong with Costas, but might want to check out Smith Optics, especially the Elites with Ignitor lenses, rock solid protection at a very reasonable price and wide selection of frames to fit all sizes. Quote
Trace Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 If you have a sams club near by they have some revo sunglasses on sale for 25 bucks ish. Decided to try some And they really aren't that bad. Quote

L a r r y Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I will jump on the Costa del Mar applause wagon, as I've had a pair for 3 years now, the 580G in Auburn color. They are some EXCELLENT (imho) sight fishing glasses, and also for just wearing on bright sunny days, even with a slight overcast they work really well. I also wear them while driving, cutting grass, and even a time or two going to a outdoor gun range. They are not the lightest pair of glasses out, but to have a pair of sunglasses with FULL glass lenses are excellent. The glass lense offers much more clarity than a poly (plastic) lense. Also as someone else has mentioned, the LIFETIME WARRANTY. I've read other reports that they've had to send them back, and if that style of frame is no longer in stock, they will contact you and send you your choice of equal value. Now to me, that is a big 10 thumbs up as far as customer service goes. Quote
Patrick Morrow Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 If you are looking for for a mix of fishing and leisure then I have used Smith Chief. They look stylish yet have lenses adjusting with sun intensity + scratch resistant. Quote
NCBassAssassin Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I've got some Costa Tuna Alley's with the 580P blue mirror, and mossy oak shadow grass camo. Great for duck hunting too, have yet to fall of from recoil, and everything is crystal clear. Quote
powerduster Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I know you said around $100, but in case you change your mind when looking around, maui jim makes some really nice looking frames. I use to have oakleys before that, but it sank to the bottom of the ocean. I like the maui much better and looks less pretentious. I use them while driving as well as fishing. Oh great warranty as well. If I remember correctly, they will do a full replacement for free if you happen to break your frames in any way. I believe it's lifetime too. Quote
