Anybody watching the classic weigh in hear aaron talking about having some issues with his equipment?  Makes me wonder if it was with those new rods of his.  Wonder how microwave guides do with the ice.

Some think he was referring to his electronics.

"microwave" guides ???????????????????????????????????????

That's what rods have he is sponsored by now, enigma rods.

Yea electronics makes sense too, I actually thought that might be what he was talking about.  His new line of rods have microwave guides, you can see everything you ever need or want to know about them online by googling them.  Silly as they look to some I can kinda actually see how they would help out with a spinning reel but cant see how they would help with a baitcaster.  If Im not mistaken didn't he switch from using lowrance to the new Onyx humminbirds this year?

Yes, he did. He was using Humminbird when he came in third in the Classic that VanDam won in Louisanna, then Lowrance and now Humminbird ONIX.

Did not see his remarks about equipment, but I know he was relying heavily on electronics, searching for fish to target in deep water with a drop shot. Not that everyone else isn't relying on electronics. If it were a rod issue, he would never admit it, under the circumstances. Those things could be falling apart out there and he wouldn't draw attention to it.

Not sure if it was brought up, but his father passed away last night as well. That alone, never mind the weather and equipment issues, would make it hard to be as focused as you need to be to compete at this level.

Everyone handles stress differently, Aaron doesn't do well when things go wrong.

Aaron's dad passing way Thrursday night just before this event must be a big burden for him, his sonar unit malfunctioning is a big deal for Aaron, it's his window to what the bass are doing.

Tomorrow is another day, hope he makes the top 25 cut, pulling for Aaron!

X2. Sorry to hear about his dad. I don't think I could do a tournament (especially the classic) in that situation. I'm rootin' for martens!

Yes that was sad to hear about his dad.  I feel for him and his family.  The way he quickly brought it up at weigh in if I remember right is he said that he had either switched equipment or had new equipment that caused him to not be able to fish the way he wanted.  First thing that came to my mind other than the rods was his electronics.  I imagine he was relying heavily on sonar looking for fish to vertical drop on with a drop shot.  Definitely tough to fish that way when your electronics are malfunctioning.

I listen to Aaron talk sometimes and he is definitely different and a little nutty, but I also get the impression that he is a really good and genuine guy.  Even if this classic doesnt work out to well for him I expect him to do well this elite season.  The dude is a straight maestro with a spinning rod in his hand.

Fished with him many years ago out west during a BASS Invitational.   Nice guy...wish him all the best.

I disliked Aaron Martens for a long time because I thought he was a jerk but I finally got his style of humour and have become quite a fan of his.

I'm sorry to hear about his father passing and that he's having trouble at the Classic with his equipment. I hope he does well (though I am rooting for my boy Shin Fukae).

I think that tonight at the weigh in he clarified somewhat about it. I believe he said he was having some problems with his rods (enigma) but they got it sorted out.

They're great actually. If ice begins to accumulate, just turn them on for 15 to 20 seconds and the ice is gone. You can also use them to heat your Hot Pockets for lunch.

Yea, he did catch big fish today, as far as his rod troubles, it's a new rod line, or company.. I can kinda see where that could happen. I wish him all the best, with my condolences.

Microwave guides were invented by the late Doug Hannon and help resolve line whip going through the guide ring. There are basically 2 guide rings for each microwave guide and icing could be a problem without a deciding agent sprayed on the guide. I was surprised to watch several of the elites thrusting the rod into the water to melt iced guides, you would think they would have been prepared with deicing spray like WD40.

The mistake cost Aaron a chance to fish today.

My prays go out to Aaron and his family.

you can actually cook hot dogs on then too. Might be worth the money after all.
