toddwchandler Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I picked up a couple of KVD 8.0 Squarebill cranks yesterday. They weight 3/4oz. I am wondering if I'll be OK tossing these with my 7' Abu Garcia Veritas Medium rod. That's what I normally use for my cranking rod and I'm just curious if it'll hold up with the bigger crankbait. Thoughts? Quote
ABW Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Not ideal, but if I only had that rod I'd try to throw them and make it work. Quote
gvillebassman Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I throw mine on a 7'6 Medium Heavy or Heavy. Seems to work good for me. Quote
MassBass Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 read the ratings on the rod. 3/4 is probably on the upper end of the rating. Quote
Mswen Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Just so you know, some sites list their weight as being 1.5 oz., which my kitchen scale seems to agree with. I'm of the opinion that If a rod works and is comfortable, go ahead and use it, but I would use at least a MH. If you look around, you can find a pretty good fiberglass crankbait rod without spending too much. I have an 8' Heavy glass rod that handles all cranks over 3/4 oz., and even swimbaits/musky plugs up to 4 oz. easily. I got it for $30, because I was in a pinch, and have been surprised at how well it's worked. Quote
