EvanT123 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Working the ice cream stand at a minor league ball park. Putting smiles on the kids faces, lots of pretty ladies walking around and talking baseball. What's not to like? I even dressed up as the mascot the last game. My other fun job was working as a lot guy at a car dealership. The bosses left me alone as long was the job was done. In the summer, I drove around doing errands in a convertible and had a gf with an apartment across the street. What are some fun jobs you have had? I'm not talking doing what you love or your career but just a random job that you had growing up or otherwise. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 I've been working a fun job for the past 10yrs. Professional body piercer. Quote
plumworm Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I once, back in the 60's carried dried bags of beef blood from a packing plant dock into a railroad car in 90 degree+ heat. Every job I've had after that was my "dream job" Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 18, 2015 Global Moderator Posted February 18, 2015 I work in the fishing department at Cabela's for 5 years. I didn't like the company but enjoyed the work. Getting paid to BS with other fishermen and teach people about fishing all day was like second nature to me. 4 Quote
Fishinthefish Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Landscaping, mainly because of the people/owner of the company. I can't count the number of days we said to hell with it and left early to go bass fishin'. Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 The only "fun" job I've had is mowing with a ride mower, which I really do enjoy. But that probably doesn't count. 1 Quote

Thornback Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Early morning paper route on a motor scooter, 7 days a week, dark of night, rain, or freezing weather didn't matter. People moving away and not paying. The circulation manager badgering me to obtain new subscribers. Then after my route was finished I would head home, eat breakfast, and then off to school where I would fall asleep in class. But I loved those early morning hours and still appreciate them when I get up early to go fishing. Best time of day IMO. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Been blessed for the most part Tackle manager for two stores out west....Worked for Bumble Bee Seafood's when I was young (awesome)...had a hotdog cart for a couple years (met some good people and saw interesting things)...my best was getting to fish professionally for about five years and doing ok and then life took a dump. Super User gardnerjigman Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 In high school along with working on the farm myself and some buddies ran the "chain gang" for the middle school football games. It actually paid pretty decent (gas and fun money for the weekend). Got all the concessions we wanted, and had a front row seat on the games.  As far as the "funnest" job I've had.... Hands down being a father to my 5 and 2 year old daughters. Talk about a roller coaster of laughs, cries and sighs! Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Worked as a campus painter for 3 summers in college. There were days that sucked working in buildings without AC, but we had the freedom to mess around as long as the job got done and we didn't get caught. We never started on time, our half hour unpaid lunch that we were supposed to get was normally at least an hour if not more and we got paid for it. Had some great times at that job.  I also worked a summer rec job that was probably the most fun job and easiest job I had. 6 weeks of 8 am to 130 pm. You get 2 meals a day out of it too. You'd come in and eat, take the kids to the gym to get them some exercise and calm them down. Take them back to the classroom for an hour and a half or so to do a little teaching/activity. Then it's back to the caf for lunch and back to the gym to play games. Left me plenty of time to fish in the afternoons and I believe I only made $300 less than I would have over the same period of time working full time at the job I had before that which sucked. Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 I was a police officer for almost 10 years. Most fun you can have with your pants on. Currently in the vegetation and roadside turf management industry. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Funnest is probably when I worked at a paintball field for two years as a ref and field manager. I played on the fields pro team then worked on the weekends as a ref and mentor to a lot of the kids wanting to be sponsored. Then got bumped up to manager like my last month there before joining the army. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 I really have only had one job my entire life. There are certainly things about it than are fun and seem like "play" instead of work.  Mowing hay-----turbo fun, I could do all day every day and be happy. Thankfully I am the only one who does it at our place and I have/can and will skip fishing for it.  Spraying crops---I like it, but don't love it, it's only fun when I am spraying non-row crops, it's a bit of a chore spraying and fertilizing row crops. My sprayer is getting to be an antique, a newer one would make it a whole lot funner. Just like the mower, I am the only one who does it at our place, it'd be nice if someone else stepped in once in a while, especially when i am busy mowing.  Tillage work or other field work with the tractors------depends, zone building is fun, moldboard plowing is fun, everything else is boring but I don't hate it  Drag lining manure----that's work, and if something goes wrong I curse life LOL. thankfully the last 2 years I have a well trained partner for this now, and that makes it easier, but it's still work,  Shop work-----depends, I like servicing equipment, and really enjoy doing our A/C work.......fabricating, repairs, etc....meh, not so much  Driving truck---------also depends, I like driving 18 wheeler hauling manure, especially when we spread it on the fields with the trucks, transfering to the spreader is not bothersome, but it gets boring, and I loath running 10 wheelers next to the harvesters, especially corn.  Being one of the "old fat guys" now has it's perks. I don't have to go pick up stones out of the fields, or clear hedgerows, or dig tile ditches anymore.  When we had cows, I enjoyed milking, and feeding.....calf and heifer work not so much 1 Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Keeping Raider's mama's trough full at the hog farm  working at a gym a few summers back Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Looking back now, I think that all the jobs I had in my teens and 20's were fun. But, I somehow doubt I felt that way at the time.....Newspaper carrier; getting up at 3 on a January morning in Wisconsin to deliver papers in the snow and sub-zero weather...but I what I remember is jacking around at the carrier station with the other guys before hitting the routes......babysitting...whiny snot-nosed kids...but now I just recall getting paid to sit around and watch tv and eat someone elses' food; ....getting paid to cut grass; awesome - hardly counted as work, even.......I remember working at the neighborhood variety store with friends, great customers, good bosses....but I tend to forget about shoveling the parking lot, cleaning fish tanks, cleaning the restrooms, etc....I remember hitting ports in the South Pacific for incredible liberty after I joined the Navy, but I now gloss over or completely forget about boot camp and early days as a Seaman Recruit swabbing decks, standing watch and polishing brass.  It sure is a good thing that my memory generally focuses on the good stuff.
