Mailbox I refinished

My work truck, still in primer, waiting on nicer weather, and still have not decided on final color.

Working on my rockfish pattern. I did it all with an airbrush. I hate the stripes, though. If you look closely at a striper, th stripes are composed of dots, so I'm gonna revisit this soon.

Working on a Warmouth as well. I like all of this but the pattern, the colors are good, but the pattern doesn't really do anything for me, so need to redo that part of this one too.

hey swampman...I love the swimbait.  where did you get the mold for that?  The only swimbait mold that I can find is on del-mart.  Same one or no??

Boett, the pic doesn't show the colors very well.  Here is the list of colors in the order that I spray on the bait.

Base coat of pearl satin white, transparent yellow over entire bait, mauve over shoulders and back, metallic silver over back, transp. dark brown scales, hookers green stripe down back, deep red throat.

No, Bob makes mine.  There's more detail in bobs version of the mold.  He also has a 3 incher that he cuts.  He has aluminum inserts and nickel plated brass inserts for both sizes.

I really like that bluegill color. How do you like the traps from Jann's?

Thanks. The traps are ok, but like all of them, not consistant in quality. I buy tons of these things to paint on, I tried practicing on PVC, but it's just not the same

I am a lot better at making baits than taking pictures! I have also been eyeing up your pics for inspiration. My airbrush has a problem with the fleshy part connects to the airbrush

It's all in the practice! iIhave sprayed gallons and gallons of paint trying to get it right You'll get there, you just have to stick with it

what kind of paint do you use if you don't mind my asking.  I brush with

CS vinyl paint but it seems pointless to do this with an airbrush because it defeats the purpose of using that kind of paint.  I only use it for spinnerbaits and jigs. I'm actually quite proud of them but it's too much work for all the thinning and paint you end up using.  I have a Paasche dual action airbrush but haven't really used it because I don't know what paint to use.  I noticed you painted spinnerbaits also and wondered if you used the same paint for plastic,wood, and lead.  I would post pics of some of the baits I have done of I can find the pictures.  I give alot of them away and just ask for them to send me a pic of the big one they catch with them.  Ifigure i'll change paint if I'm going to cover them with 2ton epoxy anyway.  That vinyl paint sure is durable once it sets up thoroughly though.  Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.  I'm not new to painting just new to airbrushing.

I just use waterbased paint. Createx is a good brand, and available at hobby stores. The craft paints at Wal-Mart work as well, you just have to thin them more. Just about all of the paints you are going to have to thin, they need to be a milk-like in their thickness. I use the same paints for everything except powder paints, of course. The key is practice, not the brand or type of paint, although Taxidermy paints are good paints.

Speaking of that...here is an in progress of a bass I'm working on, I'm trying to redo all of the patterns I've done in the past, and make them look better. It's fun, and I'm spending a lot of time on them in this off season, keeps me from wishing I was at the lake! Not that it's that cold around here, but I've gotten less bullet-proof as I've gotten older, hehe.
