I'm thinking of picking up a Johnny Morris CarbonLite casting combo in H/XF for my new pitching rig. For $30 more I can get the CarbonLite over a Pro Qualifier. Looks like it has better components, it's 3oz lighter, more bearings, and both the mag and centrigual breaks can be set without having to open the side-plate.

Seems like it would be well worth the $30. But Pro Qualifiers seem to have such a huge following, and I can get that one in a 7.1:1 as opposed to a 6.4:1 on the CL. I'm not quite sure if I should just go with that instead?

I'd also be open to any other suggestions in the $220 price range for a pitching combo. It doesn't have to be H/XF necessarily, but I'd like a rod that can pitch a decent distance into some thick cover and am looking for an easy to use LH retrieve b/c reel (it'll be my first b/c).

I know a lot of you will just recommend that I go to the store and see how they feel in my hand but there isn't a BPS anywhere near where I live and the local tackle shops don't carry many of the brands I was thinking off (BPS, Lews, Powell, Ducket). I can find *** here and Abu Garcia and I'm pretty sure I would be really happy with a Revo SX on an *** Black but that would be a little above my budget.

I feel kind of bad posting so many questions about pitching rigs lately but it'll be the most money I put on a rig to date and I really value this community's opinions.

The way I see it, I'm assuming the Carbonlite H/XF will be a 7' plus rod?  Assuming this, I'd think the PQ would balance better.  Of course I don't know it personally.  The MH/F 7' Carbonlite I have, balances better with my PQ than a lighter reel.  So I think it would be safe to say that is true for your heavier powered rod.  This would matter to me more than the lighter reel or if you already have another reel that can balance better on the Carbonlite then I'd go for the Carbonlite reel to put on another rod.  :eyebrows:

I can attest to the old Carbonlite reel and 1st gen Rods (Carbonlite that is). they are awesome rods and reels for the price!! My buddy just got a new Carbonlite reel and loves it. and he is an Abu guy! he put his on a Duckett Ghost 7' m. he tried the reel on a Carbonlite rod but ended up with the Duckett. Now from what i have seen that the new Carbonlite rods are made differently than the older models some say they are thinner blanks?? i don't know but they are pretty lite and i wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I use a Duckett Micro Magic 7' mh with a Lews tourney pro. if your lucky you can have them both at around the price your looking for.

I would assume that you would order offline if you have no bps around you? I would say get a BPS brand if you have one bc their customer service is pretty good in store.

Yeah I'll probably be ordering online regardless of what I end up getting. Either *** or BPS depending on what I settle on. Thanks for the input guys!

My only concern with the Duckett rods is the lack of information they provide. For instance if I look on their website or on TW at a Ghost, I can see they have a 7'3" Heavy but I don't know the action or lure rating on the rod.
