I am have been looking for a new pair of polarized sunglasses and cannot seem to come to a decision. I have always liked Strike King and would like to get the S11 series but just wanted to hear some other options that other people believe are better. I do sight fish quite often and need a good pair to break the surface for me to see the big ones.

Strike King makes a decent pair of glasses.

Some guys here swear by them.

Personally, after several pairs of poly carb glasses

I decided on buying a pair of Costas (with wife's

approval, of course).

Haven't regretted it for a moment. Not a scratch on

them after years of use. Oh, got the glass, not the

plastic.

For me it was worth the expense. May not be for you,

so be sure to read online reviews of the SK's, and

other brands.

Other guys here will chime in on their experiences.

I'm considering getting a pair of Costas as well, I read many poor reviews about other brands prescription polarized fishing glass. I haven't see or heard anything bad about theirs. The last thing I need to do is buy a pair of glasses to be able to see under the water, for the glasses just to make my eye sight itself blurry.

I've never owned anything but the cheap ones.  Am I missing out?

IMO, yes, but everyone's eyes are different.

I've owned several pairs of polarized glasses from Oakley, Wiley X, Costa, and several cheaper brands. None of them come close to a pair of Costas with glass lenses for me. I did recently pick up a pair of Revo sunglasses (retail for $180, bought them new for $30). They seem like pretty nice glasses but haven't gotten to use them enough to give an honest opinion yet.

Thanks for all the help Gentlemen. Now I just have to convince the wifey that these Costa sunglasses are a great deal I mean they really are and they have a lifetime warranty. Thanks again, Rippin' Lips, kentuckyraider.

I'm interested in picking up a proper pair of sight fishing glasses.  My problem is the range in prices and the fact that I may end up paying for things other than functionality.  I trust your opinion on this subject, so what are you gold standard and/or bang for your buck glasses out there?  The BPS PQ or Academy Mettle of polarized fishing glasses, if you will

I would probably suggest trying to find a used pair of the higher end glasses if possible. If not, Solar Bats have great reviews and aren't terribly expensive. The Strike King S11s are very popular with some guys as well. I have a pair of Costa Fathoms I bought used for $100 so if you keep your eyes open you can get some really nice glasses for a reasonable price.

My glasses turn dark in the sun, so I never have to worry about sunglasses.

About 25 years ago I had some Ray Ban Wayfarers that I wore briefly.   Other than that I've never had a quality pair of sunglasses and I've made do fine.   About two weeks ago, I found out Sams is clearing out Revo 4057 glasses.   They are $99 glasses and were on sale for $24.99 nationwide. I got some.  I will never go back to the cheap stuff, if I can help it.   Was planning on buying S11's and I'm sure they are good glasses.

I'd have to say as far as optics quality goes, I really like Smith although it's hard to go wrong with any of the higher-end reputable companies.  I have to wear prescription if I want to see anything at all, so when you put in polarized prescription lenses it can get spendy in a hurry.  That said, I've had cheapo WelfareMart scrip sunnies and they honestly don't compare at all.  The money you invest in something like quality prescription eyewear pays you back every day you use it.  The frames fit better, the ear and nose contact points are non-slip and comfortable- and the clarity, durability and quality of the lenses themselves are impeccable.

In my experience (and I have very light-sensitive eyes) lighter tinted or "low-light" brown lenses are the most conducive to all-around usage.  From cutting the rain glare while driving in a storm to fishing on a bright day or even going for a ski tour (snow is extremely reflective and can burn your eyes easily), they seem to cover all the bases perfectly for me.  Very versatile.

I've had cheap ones and I've had Oakleys and now I have Costas.  There is a difference between the cheap ones and the costas or Oakleys.  I think the Oakleys are better than Costas, but that's just personal preference.

I use Oakleys cause I've been around them so long. I really like their Big Taco glasses with polarized lenses. 2nd season gone through them. Never had problem with them.

Just be careful with high end glasses.

I like my Costas. My old 7-eyes were all right too.

If they're not polarized, I'm not putting them on. (I do not wear any sort of eyewear, ever, when I'm not fishing.)

Ive had quite a few Costas Oakleys Revo Maui Jim glasses and  I go for what fits the best on my head. I want comfort and want the frames to block out most if not all peripheral light. Oakley is the only brand so far that has a few styles that do this.  After about 8 Costas I gave up on them too many small frames and frames that dont seal out the light well.

I am shopping for some Costas. I am thinking about going with the gray 580P lens. Any experience with those lens for fishing?

I have a pair of polarized oakley offshoots that are fantastic but $200.

The frame is large and blocks out peripheral light so on a sunny day you feel like your eyes are in a cave. Be warned, these are for large noggins and they just barely fit my oversized melon. I had a pair of bottle rockets that blocked little light and would cause headaches from being so tight. The offshoots let me fish in comfort and style all day.

I'm pretty sure that's what I had in my first pair of Fathoms several years ago and I liked them really well.

I don't have a choice.  I have to have prescription lenses.  I have my indoor glasses and I have a set of polarized lenses for outdoor wear.   In prescription lenses, dark grey or dark green are your options, I went with the dark grey.  If I'm outside, I've got my sunglasses on, I get a headache if I don't.  Polarized prescription lenses cost me on the order of $500 more or less.   I get the highest tech ones available, with the spring back frames, the largest tear drop size available and whatnot.

My offshore Coasta's are blue mirror. They are awesome. My eyes are totally encapsulated and protected. My bass fishing Costa's are green mirror. They come with the clips that block out light from the sides. Yes they can be $$, but well worth it, especially with a Lifetime Warranty. I have taken advantage of that program and my glasses have always returned good as new.

Go with the 580G lenses.  More money but worth it.

I have the Spiderwires too. But I made the mistake of putting on a pair of Costas when I went fishing in FL. Now I feel like I need a pair so that I wouldn't miss out on seeing bass that are right under my nose. It's not a guarantee that I will catch them, but at least I can try for them. If you have no intention of spending a lot of money on sunglasses, do yourself a favor, don't try on a pair of Costas. Ignorance is bliss :)
