rboat Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I want to set up a kit for engine repairs that may save the day and get one back to the dock. I currently have some tools, spare spark plugs, electrical tape, fuses, wire ties, jumper cables, and extra 2 cycle oil. Any other engine related items you can add ? Does anyone know all of the fuel line sizes I should get for spares for the typical older evinrude 2 cycle v4. Thanks for the help! Quote
BassnChris Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Maybe some hose barbs and hose clamps to splice repair fuel lines. I carry an assortment from 1/4" to 3/8" in addition to what you have already listed. It maybe someone else's boat I help repair. 1 Quote
BassinBee Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm not mechanically inclined so I just carry a few basic tools. Instead, I bought a BoatUS membership that covers both over the road trailering and on the water breakdowns. Figured it was the best way to get me home, to a repair shop or back to the dock. Quote

Super User Way2slow Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 I guess I know too much about them. I keep no parts, other than some tie wraps and maybe a role of tape. For tools, usually a pair of channel locks and a screw driver, and a pair of jumper cables. The only times I can remember using any of these is when helping someone else. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 I used to carry an extra fuel line connection with me when I had an old OMC. Had the O-ring go bad once and it started sucking air and wouldn't run. Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Always carry those tools you have plus a few extra...a pair of jumper cables, rag, good pair of work gloves, and some carb cleaner. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 If I am going far I always throw in an extra propeller. Quote

Super User Way2slow Posted February 18, 2015 Super User Posted February 18, 2015 Oh, I forgot to mention, I do keep one critical spare part that I have had to use on several occasions in the waters I fish. That's why the channel locks and screw driver, so II can change it. A PROP. Quote
RustyShackleford Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I bet I looked like a moron paddling my boat to shore... Quote
lmoore Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Also a trolling motor prop and, more importantly, extra pins. Don't know how how many times I've saved a day of fishing just by having a spare trolling motor pin with me. Quote
Catch 22 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Not for the engine but===Safety flares and/or meteor flares. Whistle or horn. High quality flashlight Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted February 23, 2015 Super User Posted February 23, 2015 I also carry a variation of wire connectors, wire strippers for any electrical issues. Spare prop and hub kit (including shear pin) for trolling motor is a must. Quote
jay42782 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 in case of water passage clog on an outboard (pee-stream) (tell-tale) i will always have a pipe cleaner or a length of weed trimmer string on deck.these methods have saved my tale a few times.sometimes you have to take the boat where most people won't Quote
