Joedodge Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I'm considering a halo rod since there a local florida brand. But I've seen several bad reviews in searching here and on line. But they where older reviews. I was curious if anyone new if they stepped up the quality control at all?and if it's true they don't make a fast action rod? Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Their rods are made for grass fishing with heavy braid, I don't know if they got a deal on the blanks or what was up with them. For some reason they decided to make all their rods with a parabolic action so if you don't use braid you're basically fishing a cranking rod. They don't give any line or lure ratings and they also don't provide taper, when I emailed them they told me that their rods will work with any line but the action were made with super lines in mind which is why they are all parabolic. Joedodge Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 I do use braid and fish a lot of cover in fl. I guess I don't understand the parabolic action? The line and lure rating issue was a lil discouraging. I've seen the vid of the rod breaking but was more curious on current rods Quote

That can happen to any rod if the blank gets nicked or damaged somehow, I never judge a rod brand by a few videos or reviews about breakage. The only time I pay attention to that is if there is an overwhelming number or breakage problems and I haven't saw but just a few reports, the same thing with the original Duckett rods. 1 Quote

BassmanDan Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I just got the 7'6" HFTS76XHC today and it looks like a very powerful rod. I plan on putting braid on it and pitching jigs in heavy cover. I also plan on using it for Alabama rigs and light swimbaits...and the new SPRO RAT when it gets to be post-spawn. They do have a $30 no questions asked replacement guarantee but I can't see me snapping this rod unless I jump up and down on it. ...plus the red goes great with my red Steez sitting on top of it. Color really does matter you know. Quote

BassmanDan Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 It does have a parabolic action but only through the first quarter of the rod, then the power kicks in. Seems like a great tip for pitching, with enough parabolic action to cast and retrieve moving baits also. Of course only time on the water will tell the story but I seldom buy a rod without handling it first and this rod has me ready to get out and rip some lips. Quote

I just want a nice medium power fast action rod and due to the vague descriptions it's hard to find out if this rod fits me. I wana throw wacky rig, weightless T rigs, 1/8 swim baits and rattle traps and such. Quote

The halos are made for heavy fishing situations. If you want a good rod get one of the following. These are all around 150$ or less.- denali jadwood -fenwick HMX or HMG - daiwa Taluata - falcon bucoo - Abu Veritas 2.0 - kistler pro series. Quote

Not only Halo but plenty rods. Most people dont even bother looking after their rods and simply throw them down when catching fish or on the back of a pickup truck....ANY rod will break where it gets knicked under preasure... Value for money these are spectacular rods so far. I am really enjoying my Halo twilite's and I even own a Starlite el cheapo....After reading the vibes I tried my best to break them and I couldn't. As for the parabolic bend its not true for all their rods. The 7'0mh for instance loads just like any stiff fast action rod... I have fished basically everything I can gt my hands on and the only two rods I have ever broken is a Gloomis IMX and a Crucial spinning...but that was probably a bad batch....or it got a knick from someone playing in a tackleshop and clipping the blank against something...breakages happens guys....I wish the dollar was more humble to the rand then I would buy plenty more...for sub $200 I think you have to look far for a sweeter rod...but then I have used plenty of rods and have enjoyed them all...Gloomis Mossy, Kistler KLX's, zbones, alx zolo's, st.croix, steez, zillion and the list goes on, carrots, duckets, quantums whatever...you really have to be a retard if you cant pickup a bite on any ofthese rods...I believe most people writing reviews or negative one's anyway are by people that I dont think has ever even touched the rod they claim to have issues with... Different strokes for different folks...if Larry Nixon could feel a bait in the 80's on an old ass graphite rod using mono line and a spider jig in 60ft of water...you really dont belong behind a bass rod if you cant feel a bite anywhere this side of im6!!! 2 Quote
