I own two of the Lews Tournament Pro's and I love them..yada yada.    I'm about to buy another reel and it's between the BB1 Pro or another Tournament Pro.   Does anyone own both?  Or has anyone used both?   Opinions?  One better than the other?   Things to consider?   I don't have a specific use in mind with this next reel, could use it for many applications.   Thanks!

Well if it's going to have lots and lots of line on it or bigger line like heavy braid etc. go for the bigger spool of the BB. If it's smaller baits or lighter line, go with the tourney.

I have both. I use the BB1 Pro for cranking and have the multi-stop version that is 5.1:1 for both reels. I use my Tournament Pros for everything else as I don't need the low gear ratio.

I have bought a few more Lew's and have picked up standard Tournament Speed Spools. I don't notice a difference in performance and the screw on the right side of the reel doesn't dig into my hand after a day of casting. Not sure what's uo with that. May need to be turned where the slot isn't turned out.

The TP is great for lighter baits. If I were doing some heavy cranking, frogging, or anything that requires a long bomb cast, I'd get the BB1-Pro.

Thanks for all the replies.   I think the consensus is BB1 Pro for cranking and for applications needing more line.   I think I'm going to go with the BB1 Pro, if nothing else to mix up my reels to cover different applications.

Not to hijack but this is for all of you Lew's guys. I want to love Lew's, I really do. I love the way they look, feel, and just about everything else but I had so much trouble with backlashing I haven't gone back. Granted I had the lower end model of Lew's reels...The MB looks like a no brainer to me for feature and price..I also want the BB2 Pro with the dual braking for long casting swimbaits....I am probably going to get both but can I expect the same adjustment with casting...My Shimano's just don't backlash unless I do something stupid...  What makes these more finicky than Shimano when it comes to ease of use? Just curious...I am not a Shimano junkie though I love em', they just do the job well for me. I have also considered the Tatula Type R's and regular Tatula for cranking...Maybe the Lew's are the answer this year...I'm adding them to my Shimano arsenal...all opinions welcomed.

Are you talking about the $100 speed spool or the Laser MG ($79)?

For real. I have backlashed exactly once with my BB1 Pro and that was because I tried to stop my casting motion on the toss and the lure dunked into the lake about 5 feet in front of the boat. Still not that bad of a backlash.

Really can't explain this one.  I've experienced the exact opposite.  I pretty much never have backlashes with the Lews, unless I caused it by hitting something with the lure other than the water.   I have two Citica's that ocassionally backlash though, so not sure.

Hey guys, thank you for the replies. I did have the $99 version, whichever that was. I did own a regular BB1 and to be fair it didn't backlash on me much at all. It launched the baits out there pretty well too. I think the BB2 Pro will be sweet. I need a reel for throwing topwaters like thundersticks and things like that so which Lew's will cast far and easy without much fuss ? Of course I just bought a new Curado 200I so if I love it I might just buy another...BB2 Pro is going to happen though...just love that reel in hand.
