Super User deep Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 I wonder if anyone's opinion has changed regarding them. I have owned and fished 5 of them over the years, and all of them have been flawless. To be honest, I never spent more than $85 shipped for any of them though. This might be a sacrilege, but I think I like them a tiny bit better than even the Curado E's (200 size). Yes, I have owned those as well. I really appreciate how *in my hands*, the G seems to cast lighter baits slightly better, and palms a little better too. The E feels more solid and a little smoother though; but I'm used to lower end reels (like Citicas and Cardiffs), and don't really care for the extra niceties. I'm not an enthusiast. 1 Quote
Poolshark Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I love my curado g series reels. I currently own two bs, a bsf, two i's, chronarch e two g's. I feel like dispute all the negativity for shimano downgrading the gs hard wear, it performs as well any of the the other curados I own. It looks and feels more sturdy than the b series, which I have some that have lasted over a decade and fish like new. I prefer the palmability of the g and e series, so they sit on my worm setups. I personally feel that the g series reel is a fantastic reel that takes me back to the bantams in looks. If I could find more heavily discounted g series, I will not hesitate to pick them up. They are good reels. Quote
Arv Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I never disliked them. Imo, if you like them, who cares what other people say 4 Quote
The Next KVD Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 they are nice reels. I own 1 g and 7 e's. I prefer the ergonomics alittle better than the e but I feel like the e's are just a bit smoother, and I like the color a lot better. Quote
Jon G Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I never disliked them I was just disapointed in them. The E was like owning a ferrari and the G was like a camaro. It was still a good reel but coming down from ferrari quality to camaro quality was just disapointing and took a lot of time to get use to the "downgrade" 1 Quote

I like them just as much as the E series. I also feel like I can cast further with a G. Never done a detailed test or anything. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 I picked one up last year and so far it has been great. I have had no issues. It has made for a great cranking reel. I only paid about $80 for mine as well. Quote
Preytorien Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I have one, it's my workhorse reel. It's going strong. I love em' Quote
FloridaFishinFool Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 The only thing I did not like about the new CU-201G7 I bought was that I could feel the gears mesh right out of the box. I sold it within a week on ebay. I expect it to be smooth. Mine was not. Because of that experience I have moved on to other brands of reels. I have recently purchased a new Curado i just to see what it is like, but I have not received it yet and can not comment on it. I still have 8 Curado B series reels which includes one 3.8:1, one 5:1, two 6.2:1, and four 6.2:1 BSF models which I love and I will not get rid of those old reels. I was using my 3.8 B series reel this past weekend and just amazed at how smooth it is to use. I can not feel the gears on those B series reels. Super smooth. The curado standard to compare all others to. But it was the G7 that caused me to veer away from Shimano all together and into other brands. I hope the new "i" is smooth out of the box. If not, it will be my last new "made in Malaysia" Curado. Quote
robster80 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 u will like the I series. mine was super smooth out of the box. just a little overgreased. probably going to pick up another one soon Quote
Poolshark Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I've torn down every one of my curados and see little in the way of difference in parts quality between them internally. The hardware is another story. But I see all of the same plastic parts on the bantams. I think they are a solid reel and if you like em, fish them. I will! Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 Not exactly a fan of the G, for reasons that simply don't matter to pure function. I can say for the prices that many are paying for them, it's a very good deal. As far as the gear issue ( roughness ) I have had multiple brands of reels over the years, and in all cases, there are always, always, less than stellar copy's from each company. Quote
