I've been bass fishing for about 2 years now. This is my first ever 5 lb bass. It was also 22 inches long. Caught him on a black and blue jig. What's your personal best? And what did you catch it on?

A hard earned PB at that it sounds like!

My personal best was an odd story, I was fishing a bottom dragger worm, small split shot texas rigged. I don't remember the color, what I do remember was a small and a soft hit that I set too early. It felt something close to a 3-4 pound bass. Nothing amazing, I didn't want to miss the bite so I pulled in to the side of the boat, set the road in the holder and grabbed my tube setup. I threw it out a few feet past the spot and bumped it in on a slow reel. A minute or two passes and I figured the fish got spooked. I started to quick reel in my 3.5" bright yellow purple fleck tube and I got a huge hard hit, set the hook and pulled in the best lookin' 7 pound bass I've ever had the luxury of seeing. The look on my buddies face when I pulled that fish out of the water was priceless. He's from the area and never seen anything over 6 pounds in his 30 years of fishing this lake since it's a southern Wisconsin lake and the bass don't get into ridiculous hog sizes like down south.

Wtg! Nice fish!

My pb that I can verify was 8.56# caught on a Carolina rigged trick worm.

I caught one bigger than that when I was a teenager, but never got a pic or put it on a scale. I released her quickly after gloating to my brother next to me. Lol.

awesome man.  it's a rush ain't it?  nothin' like holding a bass that you know is bigger than anything else you've ever caught.  the 2 best letters in bass fishin' - P and B.

Congrats! PBs are awesome, maybe top five things in life (for me anyway). Nothing better than a late winter/early spring gal caught on a jig and craw. Slowly starting to be come my favorite time to fish (when the weather cooperates).

My PB came on the same lure and color combo (as well as the healthy gal in my pic to the left which was my PB up to last spring).

So tell us, how big was your smile? Did you start shaking? Think this experience will make you more persistent when the bite is slow?

Man I was shaking like a leaf when I saw how big he was. I was fumbling around trying to get the net. I just knew I was gonna mess it up, but when I finally got him in the boat I was so pumped up. That day will always be in the back of my mind on any future "slow" days. It only takes one cast to turn a bad day into your best fish ever. Hope it also teaches me to focus more on each cast regardless of what has happened so far that day.
