I generally select line with the same diameter as your average 12 to 17lb mono, whether it be mono, FC, or braid. (Never tried copoly.) I don't like line digging down into itself, thus these larger diameters. Does anyone here use lesser diameters than these on their baitcasters? Regards, Josh Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Sure - the majority of my BC reels are spooled with 10 lb, and a few have either 6 or 8 lb. I do have some BC reels with 12, 14, 15, and 17 lb line but those are in the minority. Quote

Regards, Josh I sort of agree, but I use the 10# mono equivelent diameter superlines the most which are 50# rated. Quote
EvanT123 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I have 10, 12 pound mono and 40lb braid on my baitcasters. I decided awhile ago I was going to use baitcasting gear for lures 3/8 and above and these lines work good for me with these types of lures and the cover I fish in. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 My standard is 6# mono on finesse type rods, 8# mono on Medium rods, 12# mono on MH rods and 17# mono on Heavy rods. Naturally there are exceptions such as 10# fluoro on a MH, 40# braid on a MH, 55# braid on a Heavy, etc. Quote

The older 4 carrier stuff can't match the newer braids in roundness, for example I wouldn't bat an eye at #30 832 on a baitcaster but wouldn't go bellow #50 Power Pro. Quote

tnt2671 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Please explain what you use these three (3) braid line choices for ? everything from unweighted plastics ,top waters, crank baits , spinners and buzz, jigs and frogs. i fish everything in the spectrum with braid obviously the 65lb is for heavier cover applications. but i have had no reason to go any lighter than 40lb it doesn't dig in and i can throw as much distance as i'd ever need w/ 40lb on my scorpion. i don't throw any super light finesse stuff. Alpha Male Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I use 12lb yo-zuri for most casting setups that dont use braid. for finesse I like to use 12lb Fluoro which is a step up compared to what most people use due to the reports i have seen that give fluoro a 75-90% knot strength. But i use 15, 20,30, 40lb braid on my baitcasters also. Quote
