5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 My bass boat needs a wire replaced for the trim switch to work. Can I still use the boat util I fix it? I heard I could but I just have to be mindful of take off speeds until the boat gets to cruising speed and levels out. Quote
BassnChris Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I have to trim my motor up and down when unloading and loading/trailering. Left trimmed up will take a long time to plane out and be impossible to see what all is in front of you. Left planed down and you will plow the water. Quote

My boat is an older 90's model with the Johnson on it. It has 5 settings on it that I can move it in position. Can't I just keep it in the center and do it that way? Quote
BassnChris Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 It might be best if someone else answers that since I don't have experience with that type of trim mechanisms. I would think it would be ok if it locks in that position....but someone should be along shortly. Quote

Crappiebasser Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Why not just replace the wire so you can run it the right way? Tilt and trim is a pretty straight forward wiring job. Some older outboards with marginal water pumps can run hot if trimmed down and the motor is working too hard. It wouldn't be worth the risk of over heating or possibly dragging the foot on a boat ramp to me. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Wiring job should be fine next week just have to find the issue. ;-) Quote
gobig Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I posted in your other thread. If its clicking but not moving up or down its most likely the solenoid. Quote
