Jsinkic Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Hey guys, I'm looking for a 7'2" medium action, fast tip for unweighted worms or flukes etc. I was looking at a Shimano compre because I love my shimano Cumara (got it for an amazing deal). When I was hold the compre the handle is think unlike the Cumara but the action I know what to expect. So my question is, is there a 7'2" medium action fast tip with a thinner handle that you would recommend. Thanks, J Quote

Penguino Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Spinning or casting? If its a fineese rod, I would assume a spinning setup Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 15, 2015 Super User Posted February 15, 2015 *** I don't know about the spinning models, but I know the casting model handles are very thin. Quote
John G Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 If its a fineese rod, I would assume a spinning setupAround here, your assumption that it is spinning is wrong. 1 Quote
Jsinkic Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Hey sorry about that looking for a spinning setup Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 15, 2015 Super User Posted February 15, 2015 Around here, your assumption that it is spinning is wrong. Often true. I've spent a few dollars getting to where I can cast light weights with baitcasting gear. Never mind that I know spinning would not only be cheaper but an easier and probably more effective way to go. Quote
Penguino Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Around here, your assumption that it is spinning is wrong. LMAO. BUT IT IS A SPINNING SETUP. So what I assumed was right..... If it is a fineese setup for soft plastics, then it most likely be a spinning setup. 1 Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Check out the shimano compre drop shot rod , it's 7'2" medium powered with an extra fast tip(action) . The reel seat looks to be a size 16 , shouldn't be to thick .A little more than a hundred bucks... Quote

Looking for something similar to the Cumara. Nice low profile. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Why not stick with the Cumara? It's possible to find these used.. Quote
Fishinthefish Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 St. croix offers several different options for various price options. One other things that you should mention is your price range so we can help you more specifically. Quote

If it is a fineese setup for soft plastics, then it most likely be a spinning setup. You had a 50/50 shot and happened to assume correctly. I own 1 spinning rod and it's only used for skipping under docks when fishing tournaments. Fun fishing I'll use casting gear since I'm not too worried if I have to pick out a Professional overrun' now and then. There are quite a few people who don't use spinning gear for finesse presentations. OP check out the Fenwick lineup. Should be one in the elite tech series to suite your needs. 1 Quote

Jsinkic Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 I was looking to stay around the 100 dollar mark give or take. If I could find a used Cumara for a 150 I would pull the trigger really fast on it but it's slim pickings. Where do you guys buy your used rods? J Quote

J I buy mine at American Legacy Fishing Company Out of Evansville, In. They have them (used rods) at the storefront & they also sell (used) on ebay.. Call the store and see! 1 Quote
EvanT123 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Measure your hand from the tip of your middle finger to the top of your wrist in inches. Convert it to millimeters and multiply by .11-.135. Doing this will find the "optimum" grip diameter for your hand size. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 LMAO. BUT IT IS A SPINNING SETUP. So what I assumed was right..... If it is a fineese setup for soft plastics, then it most likely be a spinning setup. Twice stated, twice wrong. A lot of guys use baitcasting for finesse fishing. I, for one, me for another. There, that's two right off the top of my head. Hootie Quote
John G Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 LMAO. BUT IT IS A SPINNING SETUP. So what I assumed was right..... If it is a fineese setup for soft plastics, then it most likely be a spinning setup. You got lucky! Why don't you do a search on finesse and you will find out that you got lucky! You can also do a Google Search for BFS Rod or BFS Reel. That's 'Bait Finesse System'. There is a reason that guys buy a Daiwa Pixy, Aldebaran BFS or the other reels made for BFS and spools for their reels that are not already setup for throwing lightweight lures. And then there are the casting rods that are made for throwing lightweight lures. I am using a Shimano XT1000 with a Yumeya BFS Spool and with 10# Power Pro and a 2 Power Loomis, I am throwing a weightless Trick Worm over 20 yards. I am pretty happy with that and my rod isn't even the right rod for the job. So if you assume that finesse means spinning, you are wrong! 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Do you have to be at 7'2" exactly or can you go down to 7' or up to say a 7'6" ? I'm asking because you can get a Fenwick HMG in a 7'ML-F or a 7'6" ML-F right at $100. At the $100 mark there are a lot of good rods, we all have our favorites and I recommend the HMG because I'm familiar with it and guys that are familiar with the *** Black rods will recommend those and they wouldn't be wrong. This is where you have to look and see which rod appeals to you, the HMG has a full grip and the handle is thin so you may not care for that and so you move on but everyone will put a suggestion out there and then you need to see what appeals to you that will fit your needs, good luck. 1 Quote
Penguino Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Yes but I am saying that the majority of fineese fishing is done with spinning gear. Honestly, who would want to throw a weightless senko on baitcasting gear? Look at what all the pros use. For fishing weightless, finesse plastics, almost all use spinning rigs. I'm not trying to offend anybody, but am just voicing my opinion. 1 Quote

But to say, "Honestly, who would want to throw a weightless senko on baitcasting gear?", is like saying, who would want to do it different than I do. Ironically, a weightless senko is the one plastic you can easily throw on baitcasting gear. Those things are as heavy as a rock. You could probably throw one with a truck winch. We are using baitcasting gear that you apparently aren't familiar with. I wouldn't want to try to throw weightless plastics with my Curado 200 e6, and my heavy power rod. But I can easily, with my Chronarch 50e, and my IMX 782 med. rod. I have just recently added a spinning rig to my arsenal for this year. Both can be done, it's simply a matter of preference. I wanted to try something new this year. Who knows, I may come away liking your way, better than mine. But it's all fun. Let's go fishing! Hootie 1 Quote
