Super User Alpster Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 Last fall I upgraded from my homemade wrapping lathe to a new Renzetti and I just got all the parts to upgrade my homemade (hand drill) cork turning lathe to this one.....Only spent about a $110 total, the Chinese Harbor Freight lathe required an unforeseen custom machine part to attach the keyless chuck, but now she's done and I am pumped. It turns cork like a dream and now I can look into turning my own wood inserts for fly/spinning reel seats and who knows what else. Anyway, here she is......... Quote

I watched for the benchtop model to go on sale for almost a year. Right after Christmas, this one went up for $80 so I grabbed it. It's kind of an experiment. If i really do as much work with this one as I hope to, maybe next year I will get a better one. Quote

Keith, I turned one grip set and just used the shop vac after I was done. Cleanup isn't too bad, but it does toss some cork shavings and dust. What used to take 45 minutes with the old drill set-up, now takes about 2 minutes. LOL would hat mean you can also make a custom wood reel seat for spinning stuff?? I have used the same wood grip that is on your rod on a couple of others and I like them too. The extra weight is negligible and it just feels good in your hand. However, I am more likely to use wood on heavier saltwater rods and fly rod grips. This rig might have some promise for the Cali project we talked about. Ronnie Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 If you'll notice on the one I have, that grip has room for some trimming down. It's bulkier than it needs to be. Don't get me wrong, I love it but weightwise, it doesn't have to be as heavy. Looking forward to seeing the new results Quote

I also have a Foredom rotary wood carver to finish them up with. Just a matter of finding the time to play with it. Work is always getting in the way of all my hobbies. LOL Ronnie Quote
