Penguino Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Sufix siege has a lot of memory. If you don't like memory on mono, don't buy it. I have a spool of 17lb siege that feels like a metal wire. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 I've fished braided Cotton I've fished braided Dacron I've fished braided Micron I've fished braided Surgical Suture Thread I've fished braided Spectra I've fished braided Micro Dyneema I've fished more kinds of monofilament, copolymers, and fluorocarbons than I can remember. I've fished Big Game for about 25 years now in some of the most brutal conditions in both fresh and salt water. Big Game is in my opinion the most abrasive resistant mono on the market and this quaility is why I use it. I do have one reel spooled with braid for punching and one reel spooled with fluoro for spinner baits and traps. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 I am not a huge fan of braid, though it's on around half my rigs. I have "monofilament" line on the other half, but exactly ZERO are the old school, nylon mono. A few have fluorocarbon. A few more have line I'm trying out. The rest have CXX copolymer line on it. Josh Smith Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I've fished braided Cotton I've fished braided Dacron I've fished braided Micron I've fished braided Surgical Suture Thread I've fished braided Spectra I've fished braided Micro Dyneema Braided cotton -- where can I find this??? Braided Dacron -- I have some old stuff. Need more. Do you have a source for the round (vs old flat) braided stuff? Braided Micron -- What's braided Micron? Braided surgical suture thread -- where can I find this??? Braided Spectra -- This is just another braid along the lines of Firewire, Sufix, Spiderwire, etc, right? Micro Dyneema? What is micro Dyneema? I need to respool the 5500 setting upon the Lew's Speed Stick because the guides are relatively soft. I'd like to go with something with low stretch and very low memory. I'm not into any sort of sprays or line treatment. I'd be tying a mono or fluoro leader. Thanks, Josh Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 Braided cotton: JoAnne Fabrics? Surgical braid: you local brain surgeon? Micron: your local physicist? But seriously, I believe there is flat Dacron available as fly line backer. Not sure you'd want to use this, I recall gramps "drying" his line so it did not rot. Spectra and Dyneema are brand names for the same material that makes up all modern braids. I'd get over your prejudice of line treatments, and try KVD Line & Lure. Opens new doors to lines I would not have tolerated without it, like CXX. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 I never knew fishing was so complicated. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 It's only as complicated as the Internet. Quote
0119 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Ask God......everything man touches, he complicates. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 I'm standing pat on simplicity. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2015 Super User Posted February 16, 2015 My post is gone! Next time don't delete it. I restored it for you. I figured you deleted it by accident, and not to start trouble. Quote

I've never used them and it seems like an added complication to me, but I'm also trying smelly stuff for the first time in years (figure it improved), so who knows? Josh Quote
