ChrisWi Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Looking for a few lakes that have a decent smallmouth population. I know there are probably a lot, but any help would be appreciated! Quote
Super User Scott F Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 Get yourself the Sportsmanship Connection Atlas & Field Guide. There are 2 versions for Wisconsin, North and South. They have most Wisconsin lakes listed along with the acreage, the game fish species, how common they are and the county where they are found. It is also the best atlas around. It shows boat ramps for all the lakes. I counted at least 300 lakes that hold smallmouth. There's over 1000 that hold largemouth. 1 Quote

Considering something like this but not sure how accurate or new the information would be. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 As far as accuracy goes, it's not perfect, but you won't find another source that has everything this has in one place. Some of the boat ramps shown are gone. It lists a fish like smallmouth as not present, present, common or abundant. Some that just show the fish as present have really good populations, and some that are supposed to be common are rarely found. They don't have contour lake maps, but the books are excellent starting places for further research. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 A little more. There are also Michigan and Minnesota and 10 other state editions. They show campgrounds, hiking trails and on rivers, dams and rapids Quote
brgbassmaster Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 where do you find this atlas? I've never even heard of them. Theres a million lakes around where I'm from in michigan and interested in finding out about them. Tired of going home on leave and fishing the same lakes that people found out theres bass finally and getting pressured way to hard now. Need to find new water. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 Amazon.com has them. Sportsman'sConnection.com. Some Gander Mountain, BassPro, Cabela's and other outdoor stores. Quote
plumworm Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 brgBassmaster, if your willing to travel to the U.P., pm me. I grew up in the U.P. and know of a couple of unbelievable smallie lakes. I make an annual "smallie quest" every year and do well. Quote
Shockwave Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I just bought these off of Amazon.com myself for both northern and southern Wi. Great books. Quote
