Super User *Hootie Posted February 12, 2015 Super User Posted February 12, 2015 Did you ever have two identical rods, both labeled the same, yet you could tell they are different? I have two rods, both heavy-xf. I am positive one is a med. hvy. They absolutely don't feel the same. Hootie Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Minor differences can occur between "identical" make and model even, but between brands there are very often differences because there are no industry standards and the terms are subjective. It's my observation as well that reels of the same make and model tend to each have their own personality and feel slightly different often times. Are these supposedly the same rod that the mfg may have mislabeled one? 1 Quote

RustyShackleford Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I've got two old Allstars that are the same way. I never even thought of them being two different rods. Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted February 12, 2015 Super User Posted February 12, 2015 Hootie... save two 16 - 24oz plastic soda bottles with caps. Drill a hole through the cap and install an eye bolt in each cap. Fill each bottle with equal amounts of water (how ever much you want). Tie a 10' - 12' length of string to each eye bolt and run the string through the guides and wrap it around the reel of each rod/reel. Suspend the bottles from the rod while you hold them side by side. You'll easily see how much difference there is between any two rods. oe 2 Quote

ytail Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Maybe one of them the line guides were not on the spine of the blank? Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Blank spine/spline is one of the most misunderstood and over analyzed properties of rod blanks. With your eyes closed you could not possibly identify it from the feel of the rod. This is a QC issue that will boil down to a mislabeled blank most likely, possibly some other manufacturing anomaly. 1 Quote

Yes, the rod in every respect is perfect. Not a thing wrong with it. Mislabeled is the only thing that works from here. Hootie Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted February 13, 2015 Super User Posted February 13, 2015 How's this for the same exact rods, saw this at dicks Doesn't surprise me one bit. I've got SCV blanks up to 3/4" short of what they're supposed to be. Quote
