GrifGod Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I mainly fish in the northern states of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I know that the forage is somewhat different than the southern states of Texas, Alabama, etc. A lot of pros on youtube and tv advertise soft plastics that work down in those states, but I'm looking for some soft plastics that will match the forage and work on the waters around me. What do you guys think? Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 i think anything you throw in that is sold on TW will get bit if you fish it when and the way the bass want it. But try throwing a senko, any color 2 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 11, 2015 Super User Posted February 11, 2015 Not for nothing but you may be thinking about this the wrong way. I believe any/all techniques can work no matter where you are. A lot is dependant on how you use them. Soft plastics like senkos, finesse worms, dream shots, roboworms, craws etc. are technique specific and not region specific. I am fortunate to travel a lot for work. That means I get to sneak a line in a ton of states. My "go-to's" have worked everywhere. Those include finesse swimbaits, finesse worms, senkos, and spinnerbaits. good luck. 4 Quote
NJBasstard Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Pobably not of much help as I'm not familiar with your way, but I'm willing to bet every soft plastic I've ever used would work in just about any area. I'd focus more on size and color of the forage in your area. 3 Quote

Yeah, I just have a bunch of soft plastic craw/beaver baits, and wasn't really sure if they would produce in the lakes/rivers/ponds near me. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted February 12, 2015 Super User Posted February 12, 2015 For me I have a box of 5" kalins grubs along with some 4" from other brands and assorted tubes in the boat. A tube is probably the most versatile bait, it can imitate a baitfish or a craw. I feel I can catch bass anywhere with that box. Colors depend on lake but water red, green pumpkin, for both clear and stained water. Smoke purple is great on clear lakes, especially when the sun is shining. Kalins rons craw and motor oil red grubs produce well too for me. I fish mostly south central WI and Northern WI lakes. 2 Quote
Stingray23 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 What colors? My favorite is pearl white. I will also use blue glimmer, chartruese, lemon, pearl white w/ chart. tail, albino, pretty much any color will work as long as you know how to work it. Dont be afraid to jerk aggressively and fast. Brnnoser6983 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Anything can go. I'm in Minnesota and I throw Missouri Craw, shinners, and many other things not seen in Minnesota, but is doesn't matter.. Presentation, Presentation, Presentation.. 2 Quote

bassguytom Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 A 4 or 5 inch senko will work in any water that bass live in. I use 3 colors green pumpkin, black with blue fleck and green pumpkin again. Go get em! 2 Quote
Stingray23 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Thanks for the advice? So you rig it weighless on what size hook? I like a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook. I find that anything larger will hamper the movement. Quote
travis23 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 A tube!! Ive learned you cant go wrong with a 3.5inch tube. 1 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 tubes - 2.75'' to 4'' - watermelon or green pumpkin or chartreuse (any color) grubs - 3'' to 5'' - any color senkos - same as above jigs - any size, any color, any trailer drop shot baits - minnow types in 3'' or 4'' For most things pick a color you like, or even a color that you think the forage is, doesn't matter too much most of the time. TorqueConverter Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Your standard bass fair should work 'up north' just fine. I don't get the notion that clear, deep, weedy water is some sorta game changer requiring ultra light lines and finesse baits. Creatures, worms, craws and swimbaiits all work well. Watermelon, green pumpkin and their variations are great colors. . Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 12, 2015 Super User Posted February 12, 2015 I agree tubes are a fantastic choice. In WA green colors with purple blue or red flake seem unstoppable. A trick worm is also very versatile. Grubs are a good fallback plan. If I had three choices those would be where I would start. Quote
plumworm Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I live in Wisconsin, have a cabin about 70 miles north of Green Bay and fish a whole lot of National Forest lakes. Bass population in most of these lakes are so/so. I have 3 or 4 go to baits. #1 a wackey rigged 4" senko either pumpkin (clear lakes) or black/blue flake (less clear lakes. #2 Most of these lakes have very little structure. A shakey head worm in the same colors. #3 A 1/4 oz. rattletrap in any bluegill like color and #4 a top water in the early am and just before dark. Good luck, I hope you do well. 1 Quote
